//The US House of Representatives will open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, its most senior Republican has said. Kevin McCarthy said the inquiry would focus on "allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption" by Mr Biden.

In a brief statement at the US Capitol, Mr McCarthy said there were "serious and credible" allegations involving the president's conduct. "Taken together, these allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption," he said. //

With an election looming, you'd think they could find a few candidates who aren't under suspicion - wouldn't you?

What a mess the USA is making of itself ...
This is probably an even more pointless exercise than Putin and Fatboy K :-)
Good luck to them, but it's not likely to get out of the blocks.
And even if it did the senate is controlled by Democrats, so ...
The last Democratic president actually to be impeached by the other side was Bill Clinton, and it saw Clinton's poll ratings go through the roof.
"The last Democratic president actually to be impeached by the other side was Bill Clinton, and it saw Clinton's poll ratings go through the roof. "

And the lightbulb illuminates:
Maybe that's what they want: counterbalance the Trump effect :-)
so far the evidence is

"Hunna Biden is corrupt (*) and his daddy has also profited - it is obvious!"

Altho there is separation of powers said to be more separate than UK, the US legislature is seeking to investigate ( on one man's say-so) altho we wd normally say it is someone else's job to do so.

(*) the Trump Administration and Congress, centers on a phone call that Trump had on July 25th, with Volodymyr Zelensky. Many details about this story remain murky, but the implication seems to be that the whistle-blower is alleging that Trump promised to release two hundred and fifty million dollars in return for an investigation against the Biddens

talk about corruption
Because the majority leader has called for it off his own bat, rather than after a vote ( which he may lose) the investigating ctee has fewer powers

None of this has a parallel in UK - ( fr'instance, Grand juries went out in 1840, Tolpuddle was one of the last)

The state of American politics at the moment is ridiculous.

A choice between Trump and Biden. God help us.

As bad as Sunak and Starmer,tomus42.

You'd think with a country that large, and the number of politicians on both sides of the divide, that either if not both parties could field a candidate that was either not a racist corrupt sociopath, or a senile possibly narcoleptic dodderer.

It beggars beief that these two are the chosen people to lead one of the most powerful nations on earth.

Unsureme - // As bad as Sunak and Starmer,tomus42. //

I think it' worse than that!

At least our two stand a better than even chance of not dropping dead of old age before their next term is up!

//As bad as Sunak and Starmer,tomus42.//

Much much worse. If you can't see why I won't waste any time trying to explain it to you.

Hardly think there is an equivalence between Biden and Trump.

Has anyone seen the interviews with poor Mitch McConnell? Where he "freezes"?

It is worrying: I am not a Republican supporter, but it was painful to see. The average age of senators is well into the 60s.

Not a good situation.

I saw it Ich. He's done it a couple of times now apparently.
