After my colleague died of Legionnaires, we were told that when you go to a hotel you should turn the shower on and at the hottest temp, get out of the bathroom and let it run for a couple of minutes. If there is good aircon and the mist has gone, then you go in and have your shower. The problem can be when the shower hasn't been used for a while. My colleague was a lovely...

They didn’t bring anything in. If you read your own post the bacteria is found in water .

Yes it’s been found in the water on the barge , will they have contracted it?

Never mind Annie, I’m sure Geoffrey will be pleased with you hahaha
It's in the water somewhere. I knew someone who died of it - they never did find out where he caught it but hotel shower heads are a popular one.

It’s a spreading disease so hopefully they’ve caught it in time
Let’s see what our bleeding hearts think about this

this bleeding heart says - once again - look it up before yakking. FOund in water and ( water in ) air conditioning, and as the CDC says

Legionella grows and multiplies in a building water system, water containing Legionella can spread in droplets small enough for people to breathe i

so THIS bleeding heart says - calm down calm down
( disease of buildings )
should have been checked for

PP, this has to be a first, I nearly understood your post
Fairly recently a hospital had to close some wards when the bacteria was found in a water tank resulting in ill babies, and yes sj it can be fatal.

Question Author
Surely/ hopefully the people from the barge will be quarantined?
I wonder if this barge has been laid up somewhere de-commissioned before being towed here. What a coincidence that it had berthed hundreds of off shore oil workers etc with nary a sign of Legionnaires in the past .
First discovered in an American hotel where American vets ( Legionnaires) were holding a convention. It is found in air/con units and water tanks I believe.

and they thought they had discovered a new agent ( they had: legionella) and submitted it to a Journal
and in thee Very Same Issue there was a paper showing that so-called legionella was conclusively linked to the type of airfreshener !

synthesis was that the sprays facilitated infection.

there you are - straight from 1980

I am unmoved by your level of comprehension
