So we shouldn’t be giving asylum to genuine asylum seekers?
Question Author
I don’t buy into that idea…sorry Sandy
Question Author
Hymie so you think the 15, 000 this year alone are genuine asylum seekers?
Maybe we should process the asylum seekers and deport those not qualifying – I wonder if the government has thought of doing this.
Question Author
And what of those who deliberately throw away and ID they might have?
What would you do with them Hymie?
It is nonsense to imply that the government accepts those asylum seekers without documentation as being genuine.
Question Author
Okay, so we should accolade them as they rock up on our shores, process and keep them? Get real Hymie and start by looking at how many home grown homeless people we have, let’s look after those as a priority, they seemed to have been forgotten !!!
Question Author
Typ* accommodate
When you are getting swamped by 15k of invading entrants it takes a time to process them all. Especially if many are trying to obstruct everything the authorities try.

I am of the opinion that any caught crossing the Channel here without prior agreement/permission are clearly not eligible, and so processing should simply be a case of ensuring they board the south going boat or train, plane even, immediately.
Question Author
Furthermore if they are as genuine as appear to believe Hymie, why pay traffickers? Why not spend a fraction of what they pay to them on a plane ticket?
If asylum is their goal they could have claimed that from an EU country. They had no valid reason to cross the Channel. They're economic migrants.
During our imperial past we gifted our language to many people. What better place to seek sanctuary than a country where you have language in common?
Question Author
Don’t see many of the Algerians ‘flocking’ to France Sandy
Bobbisox1,
People from former French colonies do go to France.
I'd guess there aren't many Algerian refugees in the UK.
Question Author
I didn’t like Thatcher, never voted for her but I feel this country needs a PM like her right now
Question Author
Sandy there’s a lot of nationalities coming here and skipping over many safe countries to do so , I simply don’t buy the argument of it’s because they know English, they don’t or if they do , they make a grand job of pretending they don’t
From the UNHCR website:-

‘There is no such thing as a bogus asylum-seeker or an illegal asylum-seeker. As an asylum-seeker, a person has entered into a legal process of refugee status determination. Everybody has a right to seek asylum in another country. People who don't qualify for protection as refugees will not receive refugee status and may be deported.’
Question Author
Then why pay a trafficker? Why not seek asylum by coming in by the correct means?
Why go through safe countries to get here?
It’s because they are ECONOMIC migrants , that’s why !
Hymie, that’s nonsense. People who don’t qualify are clearly bogus.
If they were real refugees and were fleeing because their lives were in danger, they would be grateful just to get here, not arrive with lawyers and news papers on speed dial, so they can challenge everything. There was talk about the English Channel being one of the most dangerous shipping routes in the world, but it clearly isn't dangerous at all so many small boats arrive without incident.
