Grammar is based on rules, not opinions,
oh dear no - English is not prescriptive, unlike French ( academie francaise) and Spanish ( Academia Real) - this is why English dictionaries list "wrong" meanings, because that is how people use them. (Disinterested means fair and unbiassed. Uninterested is listed as a second meaning even tho most peope wd say it is wrong).
if english had rules - then we would be speaking shakespearean english wouldnt we? ( Late Middle English to knobs)

When people talk about Twitter, generally it's not just talking about a website and app - it's talking about what people are saying to each other on those websites and apps, what their moderators are doing and how the technology is working. That's not something inert like a hammer, it's more like an ecosystem.

All I've done is point out the flaw in an analogy offered in a post.
The reason for the hostility from the usual suspects, is based, not on the fact that they actually believe that the analogy is not faulty - it is - but that because it is me that is pointing it out.
If anyone else made the same point, there would not be the standard huffing and puffing from my coterie of hostiles, which bothers me not one bit, as I am sure you can imagine.
They, and you, can dislike the fact that I am 'off on a crazy righteous crusade ...' as you put it, but that's because, in common with the rest of the hostiles, it is not that the analogy fault is incorrect, it's that you wish it were, so you can be rude to be about it.
I think you all need a sense of perspective, and to remember the age-old adage about playing the man, not the ball.

I find Twitter very useful, my local police, councillors, highways dept, public transport companies, news sites all post useful time relevant information.
Companies respond very quickly to my complaints.
I do follow some interesting people, none of whom are conspiracy theorists, influencers or bonkers
