Yep. Schrodinger’s homosexual, maybe.

It was a long time ago, but it's a useful example. I had a conversation with Ummmm once at a beer festival, she was curious about my switching between male and female partners. I explained that I fall in love with a person not a set of bits. Who they are is far more important.
Respect for others, Rowan? If only. Nothing will change when there are people who make the ignorant comments put on this thread. Immature little boys with not an ounce of respect in them.
The scattergun approach may not be the most useful.
Exactly, still using references that should have disappeared alongside well known but now generally banned terms that offend people of colour, ( and Irish people who have their own set of insults to deal with). They think it's clever but proves the reverse.
I don’t see any ignorant comments. I see some poking of fun at the premise that there might not be any other gay footballers to find. I see some jocularity about why on Earth this should be a big issue in 2023.
And when they can't see it's offensive, Rowan it'll never stop.
Like I wrote earlier I honestly believe that in about 15 years time things will be changed.

Like remember when you were growing up, comedians used to tell mother-in-law jokes, and those English / Irish / Scottish jokes? They literally don't exist anymore.

I've got a 21 year old nephew and his generation are so (for want of a better word) 'shruggy' about sexuality. They may be the first "post coming out" generation.

We shall see.

Shouldn't be, but for many it is. I think it's different living in a metropolitan, progressive environment, but not everyone is as forward-thinking as we may be.
Go on then, Gness, point out the immature / offensive posts. Give those who you accuse the chance to respond.
Agreed, SP.
Bend it like Beckham....that will do for starters
Playing for Queen of the South .....
Who are you, or anyone else, to judge whether those comments are offensive?
Right, off to buy some lemons so I can get in tune with the vibe.
You’d be better getting some semaphore flags. You know, for the virtue signalling.
Offence cannot be given...one has to make a conscious decision to be offended...

TTT - // AH, "Football remains one of the last bastions of homophobia. " - which is ironic because if you watched a game you'd think that they were all gay. //

What would lead me to that conclusion?
TTT - // naomi: "He ‘came out’ last September. " - isn't the whole "coming out" thing a bit old hat these days? I mean surely the idea that someone is gay is no longer worthy of some sort of special announcement. //

Ordinarily yes - but if your profession is the last bastion of homophobia, then it does merit an announcement, because in the world of football, being gay is still a massive taboo.

They whine all the time and pretend to be injured when they've not been touched. Though that was a slightly TIC comment.

Attitudes to anything change, but it takes a generation, maybe more, to pass right through from young to old.

That means that the generation born this century are largely unconcerned about sexuality, but in terms of football, the millions of people born in the last century will have to grow old and die, taking their nasty fear and prejudice with them, before the spectre of homophobia will finally be a thing of the past.
