I hope so, how can a spat between a tv company and a football presenter so dominate the news, is nothing else happening
Why has that guy got no lenses in his glasses?
Perhaps he thinks glasses make him look intelligent.
Andrew Neil and Alan Sugar are both examples of people who constantly express political opinions off-air... without any complaint about impartiality

Gary Lineker's crime was upsetting Tories and that's it
Gary Lineker's crime was comparing known individuals with Nazis. He should be more responsible, or if incapable, stay quite.
...quiet... !!!!!!
He didn't compare any individuals with Nazis. He likened a proposed Bill's language to that of 1930s Germany.
And

Who presented the bill ?

Who was using that language in 1930's Gernany ?

Is there anyone anywhere who was genuinely confused at what the accusaton was ?
..accusation...
Aye, and nobody ever associates 1930s Germany with nazis.
Someone had to present it. If Lineker had said 'Braverman's language......' then he'd have been accusing her but he didn't.
GL was clearly accusing the cabinet, if not the whole party. Specific names didn't have to be stated.
the fact that you find the comment offensive does not mean it should not be made
'GL was clearly accusing the cabinet, if not the whole party'

He was indeed as the Bill is the party's proposal.
"Perhaps This Should Be The Last Word On The Lineker Fiasco" - perhaps but this is not about the Line acre fiasco is it? It's just hymie digging up another 5C propaganda video.
Edited from https://www.linkedin.com/posts/charliedobres_as-someone-of-jewish-descent-who-lost-family-activity-7040314492697686016-6SvD as it seems relevant (complete post is available in link) and a lot easier on my phone than writing something similar! ...

As someone of Jewish descent, who lost family in the Holocaust, I want to not only thank Gary Lineker for his comments, but to back them up too, with evidence.

Lineker tweeted "language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s".

To be clear, no I don't think the UK is heading for a genocidal event. I don't think Lineker believes that or is saying that. I don't think any reasonable person believes it either.

[... but ...]

To illustrate with just one of the hateful words being used, on more than one occasion, Home Secretary Suella Braverman has used the word INVASION, including in Parliament on 31st October 2022, stating: “The British people deserve to know which party is serious about stopping the invasion on our southern coast and which is not.”
Here are just three times the same word was used in 1930s Germany to also describe immigration:
1) In a speech in January 1939, Hitler referred to Germany as “facing an invasion” of Jews.
2) In a speech in Nuremberg in September 1935, Hitler referred to the entry of foreigners into Germany as an "invasion".
3) In a speech in Berlin in September 1933, Goebbels referred to the entry of foreign workers into Germany as an "invasion" that would lead to the displacement of German workers. He accused these workers of being a burden on the German economy.

[...]
And talking about references to the language used in the thirties, what about Fifth Column? Why that term is tolerated here to describe ABers who don't support right-wing politics is a mystery to me.
elipsis: "To illustrate with just one of the hateful words being used, on more than one occasion, Home Secretary Suella Braverman has used the word INVASION....." - well lots of illegals are arriving by boat on our shores, what would you call it?
Invasion was a perfectly accurate description, and one should not have to avoid the truth because of woke attitudes. It's part of the problem with society today. Comparison with accusations of individuals speaking as WW2 Nazis is completely inappropriate.

It's not a case of not liking something, it's a case of possible enticement of unlawful action against the individual politicians, as if they were Nazis, which is unacceptable. Only folk like Putin see Nazis everywhere, and I don't believe GL really does so why would he choose to come out with that subject ? With rights come responsibilities.
bang on OG, so ellipsis and co if I find a word used in a Nazi speech does that mean it is invalid ever after lest we be accuse of being Nazis? There are lots.
