I'm not sure but if it happened the Scottish government would give £1.1m and an electric car to all aged 16 and over.
Not as funny as douglas but inflation for ordinary things like food would go through the roof but sales of luxury yachts and mansions might fall
Wages would have to go up or what's the point in working
It would fuel the biggest short term nationwide housing boom, overheating the economy fuelling ridiculous inflation. Who is going to hold prices down when people have that much money. Within weeks that million wouldn't even buy you a coal shed in Blackburn. If you want to give money away better to drip feed it over a long term period or spend it on funding free university education for those roles the country needs, doctors, paramedics professions, nurses, teachers, e tc.
Which is why they should just put all those £millions together and give it to me.
It would also require more money than any individual has :-)
It would do more harm than good. For a start we'd get hyper inflation so it'd be £500k for a pint of milk in a week.
I think a lot of companies would collapse. Lots of people would believe that £1m will last forever and go crazy spending money, ordering new, top of the range cars and luxury items which of course would quickly and steeply rise in price. Many folk would resign from their despised jobs hoping to 'live the dream', leaving companies short staffed. Demand would outstrip supply and before the goods could be delivered and the balances collected, the orders would be cancelled.

When the dust settles down we would be much worse than we are now, as a nation. The previously wealthy would still be wealthy and the poor would again be poor with many companies bust. I suspect bookmakers would be amongst the 'winners' of such an experiment.
regardless of the merits of doing so it is interesting to think that there are a small number of individuals who could easily afford to do that and not even notice... is it really healthy to have people who have the private wealth of whole countries or cities?
Untitled: " is interesting to think that there are a small number of individuals who could easily afford to do that " - there are approximately 30m adults that's 30 trillion, who can easily afford that?
oh dear you're right... think i had a brain fart :)

how silly of me
