The lady who honoured Lesya Ukrainka gets my vote :-)

On Barnaul, in the neighbouring Altay republic it had been reported that there had been a mass refusal to enlist. Don’t know if true

On Moscow people were arrested for leaving flowers and toys to remember the 45 victims of last Saturday’s Dnipro atrocity.
And said flowers and toys confiscated.

Boris Johnson appears to be visiting Bucha this morning. I’m sure gulliver will join with me in commending him for this.
Ich, what do you think boris’s motive is for the visit ?
So the likes you can be cynical?

Who knows :-)
ICH

What's your background .

Do you live abroad / have family in that area ?

No ulterior motive - just interested as you seem to be well versed on the subject
I’m a British Irish boy :-) but been to Ukr many times

If the Evil One is doing this for the publicity his PR folk are slow off the mark: can’t find it in the press yet tho I’m sure it will be shortly

anne..; //what do you think boris’s motive is for the visit ?//

One thing you can say about Boris, love him or hate him, he doesn't really give a toss what people think about him, - never has, never will.

He's going to Bucha to see things for himself & meet up with his new Ukrainian friends & supporters, they've named streets after him & they'd elect him for mayor if they could :0)
You have labelled me cynical, without even knowing me . Hey Ho . :-)
What do YOU think is the reason Anne?
// love him or hate him, [Johnson] doesn't really give a toss what people think about him, - never has, never will. //.

That is about as far from the truth as you could possibly get. :-D
Johnson has been in Switzerland for a few days at the Davos summit.
From there, a small detour to Ukraine is very easy.
While at Davos he lobbied for more help for Ukraine, and met Ukraine delegates. So it is highly probable that he was invited, and that he accepted.
(Not sure why Johnson was at Davos and not a Cabinet Minister?)
Yes probably invited.

“Easy detour”

Yep: just hop on the nearest plane.
Oh, wait

Still waiting for Anne’s reply
// Yep: just hop on the nearest plane. Oh, wait //

Plane from Zurich to Poland. Train to border and car into Ukraine. 1000 miles.
Exactly.

Piece of torte
Or train to Kyiv

I wouldn’t drive that personally
