I was speaking to another AB person about this last night (my wee brother Andrew) and neither of us could put into words just how angered and disgusted we each were over such a retrograde move.

He has three teenagers, two daughters and a son and he couldn't imagine treated any of them different because of their gender.

And don't get me started on the logic of Honour Killings ...

The taliban is an extremist, hardline regime that treats women disgracefully, it does not reflect the majority of Muslims.
Afghanistan was a very different country in the 1950s and 60s before the coup and was relatively westernised, women could have careers, drive, dress fashionably in mini skirts if they chose to.

As Naomi, who is the only person on AB to have actually read the quran, says so often

" the relevant section 26;31 I think, just says covering or modesty. The word Hijab DOES occur in the Quran - but it means separation ( or modesty)
whether or not the modern word mean black cloth pillar box"

well there's a word of sense on this thread !
PP, stop saying I’ve said things I haven’t said.
Question Author
