10 days after the catastraf*** that was the Fiscal Event…..

https://news.sky.com/story/liz-truss-to-delay-approval-vote-on-cutting-45p-rate-of-tax-cabinet-minister-says-12710703

Sounds like she’s lost the Parliamentary party already.
Well, we knew it was going to be a roller-coaster ride…..Lol.
How to install confidence in Britain and the markets eh?

^ Our forefathers also ensured we have a right to freedom of speech, Bobbi. And that includes criticising the government of the day, irrespective of whether or not we used our right to vote.

what double posting??
Wise words from Emmie right through this thread. Sorry Fatti, but this thread has put you in a bad light. I'm neither Conservative or Labour by the way. I keep away from the News Section these days, but just popped in this morning. Same old, same old.
If they ‘get it’ maybe they’ll listen to the polls and have a GE,

er -they have a majority of 80 - chrissakes, and will go down the jarn if they call a GE - I really dont think so
they will let it run for 18m-2y and then the blood letting starts
Perhaps he's talking about his double-Dutch postings, emmie. :o/
a lot can happen in 18 months.....
could be Naomi, i confess i re-read them but they don't make any sense.
Think Boris ought to dig that ditch he promised to die in, a little deeper. ..Room for Liz.
...................."The Lady is for turning"..............
Govt. gets something wrong. Puts it right. Criticised for u-turn.
In order to keep people happy on this website, users should stop posting their opinions and just post about going shopping, having a glass of wine, taking photos of the cat/dog etc. That'll show 'em!
On tv yesterday, Truss was asked if the cut in the 45% was put before the cabinet. She hesitated, then replied that no it hadn't and it was the decision of Kwarteng. She was then asked if the cut would still go ahead in face of all the criticism it had attracted. She gave a one-word answer - "Yes!"
The reason it is being dropped is because Truss and Kwarteng knew they would not get it through Parliament.
I was thinking last night (dangerous, I know) That I paid 40% Tax for the first 10yrs I worked. 50% in Scotland. And I wasn't a red bracered, Champagne swilling City spiv. Honestly, MrF.
I think the top rate was over 90% in those days. I had zero interest in politics then (better things to do/think about) and never really considered it my money in the first place.
I'd known nothing else, so it just seemed normal. It was a pleasant surprise when it went to 33%. Then 25%, then 20% in what seemed fairly short order.
Certainly not suggesting today's rate is too low. Just trying to convey to young? MrF (who I like) that Governments when given the opportunity will quite happily squeeze the pips out of the poor (sob) and hardworking who unlike the rich have no escape from them.
Who was it that said:

Treat them like dirt and they'll love it.
It's hard to believe , but the Cons have actually produced a Prime Minister who is already less popular with the Public than The previous idiot they produced .
And After less than one month in power.
Are theTories brainless ?.
Or,
Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.
Very well put Emmie,by the way I’ve never ‘sucked a Werther’ in my life but I do like Countdown as it keeps my old brain working and I DO use my vote both on local and General Elections because not doing , you give up the right to criticise who’s been elected !!!

Nobody needs to vote in order to criticise the elected. We are all tax payers. Lots of earnings go into the government coffers. We ALL have the right to criticise politicians, voter sor not.
Sorry bobinwales. It was in answer to Bobbisox, not you. It's an age thing!
I disagree Clarion, if you continually lambast who’s running the country , the way for change is to use a vote that our forefathers died to get for us , you vote them out and get in who you think is doing a better job for the country
