should do, Charles will drop the title in favour of King. And Kate will be Princess. Camilla will be Queen Consort.

I say "will" but I think they already are, automatically.
Yes and the Duke of Rothesay and Earl of Carrickfergus. Goes with the turf.....
I read a little earlier that the Prince of Wales title doesn't automatically pass on, it has to be conferred by the monarch.
Will Kate be queen when it’s her turn. Why is camilla not queen ? Is it because of the adultery ?
Anneasquith, I think it's all very complicated. My daughter could never understand why Philip wasn't 'the King'.
probably the same reason that DoE wasnt king
that's true, come to think of it, Nac, I remember Charles being made Prince of Wales in a ceremony in one of the castles out there.

But Charles was only 21 at the time, William's a lot older than that already.
To be a King or Queen I think that you have to be born into the Royal family.
Charles was about nine when he was made Prince of Wales - it was the investiture that waited until adulthood.
no special reason why Camilla shouldn't be Queen, the same as the Queen Mother was Queen Elizabeth in her day; but they've decided against it (at EIIR's behest as I recall).

However there are consort (married to kings) and regnant queens (who rule in their own right) but there's only one sort of king, and that's regnant. Prince Albert was a Prince Consort, Philip didn't want to be one, so he wasn't.
Anne, it's because (until Charlotte) we only passed on male titles. A woman marrying takes her husband's, but a man marrying, keeps his own.
In a way, I am very happy to be in a state of ignorance, accepting the things as they are. The earlier stuff, about the Queen being happy for Camilla to be Queen Consort, just flagged up how... odd some of the rules and conventions are!
it's only recently that an eldest daughter had been allowed onto the throne, after all - Elizaabeth got there because she had no brothers, but if she had, the oldest one would have been King and Elizabeth would have been where Anne is now.
Queen Elizabeth was the monarch in her own right but Camilla will be Queen Consort as she is the wife of the King.
Prince Harry's two wee ones are now a Prince and a Princess unless the King decrees otherwise.
If William is invested as Prince ofWales will Kate become Katherine, the Princess of Wales, or Princess Katherine of Wales?
Princess Katherine

Go away Gulliver. This is not the time or the place.
the same as the Queen Mother was Queen Elizabeth in her day; but they've decided against it (at EIIR's behest as I recall).

therein lies a tale

Edward VIII was full of it when he abdicated and thought he could be King and not-king at the same time. ( Shades of that arch-shirker - Haaarrreee) - and he asked a QC what he became after King
Jowett QC said - "yers yers , you go back to what you were - a Prince of the realm and your wifey is a princessy - HRH to be exact"

THEN ( this is not too much for you is it? ) Jowet became Lord Chancellor, and opened a letter from Paree ( Edward for it was he), that said - "now you were saying....

And Jowett said: the King ( George VI) is the fount of all honours and it is clear.....

that is, as far as titles are concerned, the King says, cough and you say - how loud your majesty

and so.... Charles III can do or say or appoint whatever he likes

Oh and so yes Wills should be PoW, and does it automatically or on appt or however his Dad says

George III was NOT son of George II - grandson. The son was Prince Frederick of whom we never heard, got on badly with his Papa and WAS PoW. Frederick died 1759 and George just became PoW ( not according to the rules which is the eldest SON).

so it really is, whatever Charlie boy wants
