“Swiftly”

Nice one gully :-)

Well said from me too
ymf //I think Putins actions are showing the case has changed. I would not be surprised if his ultimate aim was to recreate the USSR.//

My thoughts exactly.
There won’t be a no fly zone.
Sadly.
The reason for that of course is that NATO would have to enforce it.
And we all know there that would probably end
@sevenOP, you are asking why? Really?

Honestly, your post beggers belief, even if you disagree you should be able to understand why I wrote that.

That is precisely his aim.
I think TTT is referring to NATO countries Ich. The OP is about where next after Ukraine.
NATO expansion over the last 25 years has alarmed the Russians. 12 of its former Warsaw Pact neighbours now fly the NATO flag.

Ukraine shares 1,500miles of border with Russian, and losing that to NATO is unthinkable for the Russians.
Snap Naomi. And a very good Best Answer from Gully. The world needs rid of his evil man

//and losing that to NATO is unthinkable for the Russians.//

I think you should have written 'some' Russians. They dont all agree with what is going on.

And if that was the case why didnt Putin stop at the Russian quarter? No, although I was wondering at the beginning actions speak louder than words. The NATO thing is the excuse.

The thing is, Lottie, if his ultimate goal is to recreate the USSR, how far do we let him go before we make every effort to stop him - or do we allow it to happen for fear of him carrying out his threat?

Quite a lot "beggers belief" on this forum.
Yes I am asking you but you will not answer.

I laid out my reasoning why it is unnecessary (Article 5), so what is your reasoning why it is " time to bolster the NATO countries and it should be done now. Troops placed back from the border but near enough Putin couldn't make a rush for them." ??
/// douglas9401 Is there an effective spray for nuclear mites?/// very quick off the mark this morning

Of course I meant might ;0)
Militarily, keeping NATO out of Ukraine makes perfectly good sense for the Russians. The future security of Russia depends on it.
“ Ukraine shares 1,500miles of border with Russian, and losing that to NATO is unthinkable for the Russians”

I’ve said this before but it’s not about NATO expansion. Plainly.
[i]he’ll never subdue Ukraine’s desire to stay free[i].

I don't doubt it, but how long did it take last time? Not just Ukraine but all eastern Europe. And how long did it last when they got it?

Russia used to be curbed, a bit, by their wariness of China. Relations seem to be less frosty for the moment, which is not a good thing.
“I think TTT is referring to NATO countries Ich“

I’m pretty sure Tora meant over Ukraine. You wouldn’t want one over NATO

Russia at least does not have full control of Ukrainian airspace after two days.
That’s according to the MOD
It is about access to the Russian fleet at Sebastopol. That is a strategic site for deploying Russian warships around the globe. Ukraine being full of NATO troops and weapons would endanger that.
there is a possibility that democracy could "infect" the Russian people, they may want to follow Ukraine and become a democracy. Then NATO will be irrelevant, they could even join it themselves in the future. The Russian people like Nazi Germany are in effect occupied by a despot. Putin may well be overthrown if those surrounding him think he is becoming a liability, if everyday life becomes harder as a result of becoming a world pariah. I'm sure they don't want to be labelled another North Korea. I wonder how much public support there is for their current system.
RIA says a Russian cargo ship has been seized in the English Channel.

Interesting …
Spot in Tora.

A lot of things being said on AB that don’t normally get said.
When the really crucial issues arise …
