Canary, a man who marries a queen is never king. He’s given the title ‘Prince consort’ - as Queen Victoria’s husband, Albert. Women who are married to kings are queen consorts so Charles wife will be Queen Camilla, just as George VI’s wife was Queen Elizabeth. Queens in their own right are just queen.
Very wise of the queen to speak out about this now. A good decision.
It also means that Camilla will be crowned along with Charles, albeit a lesser ceremony.
Does anybody know if Camilla can choose her regnal name in the same way that Charles can?
Making it simple for those that still don't get it
Prince Phillip was Prince not n by because of the orders of rank at that time
He couldn't be a higher rank than his wife as she was the monarch

Emperor wife Empress consort
Empress. Husband Prince Consort
King. Wife Queen consort
Queen. Husband Prince Consort
crown Prince. Wife Princess consort
Crown Princess. Husband Prince consort
This used to affect the order of succession in the Uk
The rules have changed now regarding succession so Charlotte slots in between her brothers rather than coming after Louis as would have been the case before
Other hereditary titles are in existence but I suspect given the patriarchal tendencies in most countries similar rules apply
I'm with aa, she will always be the bit on the side to me who ruined Diana's life. Not very dignified bonking Charlie when he was Diana's husband !!
A "bit on the side" that has come good and has made Charles happy.
The only exception to the husband being made king was in the case of William III and Mary II.
I think the whole sorry saga is more complicated than just a bit on the side. Unfortunately we often forget that prominent people are human. They make mistakes, they do the wrong things, they mess up at times, just like the rest of us. Quite simply he always loved her. I don't begrudge them their happiness together.
And not withstanding Charles was ‘forced’ into his marriage to Diana ( whom I have the greatest admiration and respect for ) he loved another woman who was probably then too old and a divorcee to produce an heir to the throne , we may not like that this happened but that was the way it was then , Camilla has grown on me over the years and makes our futur King happy ,that can’t be wrong, can it?
And in making Charles 'happy', they made Diana VERY unhappy ! People can forgive and forget if they like, I won't.

They always loved each other but because of protocol they couldn't marry at the time and she was married anyway. I felt sorry for Diana as he cheated on her and never really loved her. She had quite a sad life I think. Charles and Camila were always in love.
But how times have changed. Edward VIII had to given the throne when he married a divorcee. Charles, marrying a divorcee it's turned out great for him.
Burley , I wasn’t referring to making Charles happy then, , I’m saying she makes him happy now
^^give up
Sharon even Margaret was caught in a trap back then but thankfully the Monarchy started to change
BS I wasn't answering you !
> he loved another woman who was probably then ... a divorcee

Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles from 1973 to 1995.

Queen Consorts differ from Queens in that if their husband dies (or divorces them), they no longer reign. Compare Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, to Queen Elizabeth II and what happened when their respective husbands died before them.
Time is obviously still a great healer.
Seems right then, ellipsis. It's purely just tradition that wives take husbands' titles and not vv. I'm sure plenty of married ABers have done the same.
I like Camilla, and particularly because William and Harry seem to, that's good enough for me. And while I never trusted or took to Diana, she did seem to be brought in as a broodmare briefly.
