On STV news. Marks and Spencer has changed the name of its popular Midget Gems sweets to avoid offending people with dwarfism. Really!!

It's the little things...
It is offensive to think of people with dwarfism as midgets and they bear no resemblance to the sweets.
As Lions invented midget gems M&S should consider themselves fortunate they weren't sued for breach of copyright, something M&S is keen to do with competing companies.

in the revised packaging, it's no longer proclaimed that the sweets are made in Yorkshire (or anywhere else for that matter). Probably now made in China?
To be clear it's part of a wider campaign about removing the word 'midget' from everyday use, not about people taking offence at a particular bag of sweets.
This was discussed in Ch 5 today, Jeremy Vine's programme. Apparently "the change has come about from a single complaint made by a keyboard warrior". M&S should visit AB sometime...
Our local butcher has stopped advertising mutton because it might offend the deaf.

choux, I saw it on Jeremy Vine as well. When will it end ... I'm getting less and less shocked it won't be long before we have to start humming and clicking to each other to communicate.

I have two bags of Tesco Midget Gems coming this evening with my delivery.
If that lunacy floats across the pond, we'll have to rename the hockey groups for kids under 15. At present they are called Midget Minors.
