You are confusing Asylum Seekers with Refugees, they are different. Asylum seekers ought to get to the nearest safe country. Refugees are fleeing a war or danger and make for where ever they feel safest.

Those men who are granted asylum can then send for their wives, daughters, grannies etc. For each male granted asylum expect another ten females later.

Not at all.

Lots of things go on in the world that many people here find distasteful, abhorrent or simply barbaric. But that doesn't mean we should accommodate the alleged victims from those places here. Some pretty nasty things used to go on here and in Europe during the middle ages and before. But the country evolved, developed, became more enlightened and gradually those practices stopped. That's what must happen in other places. Either that or they remain as they are.

Western leaders need to understand that (1) they cannot cure the world of all of (what they see as) its ills and (2) they cannot accommodate everybody who is not too fond of the place they live in. The first reaction of people in such places is to up sticks and flee. Well they are the only people who can alter their lot and that of those around them. Upping sticks simply perpetuates the disorder and there's no reason why Western personnel should have their safety compromised if those who live there cannot organise themselves to counter it. Furthermore, there's even less of a reason why those who do flee should be accommodated elsewhere.

If we evacuate them using British aircraft, we have already accepted that they are refugees. And we will look after them as refugees.
An asylum seeker is someone who just turns up in our country without any prior arrangement and says ‘protect me’.

Never heard of the term but after looking it up, I still fail to grasp the concept.
My understanding was that pre 2001 under the Taliban it was a repressive society particularly to women and although the main aim of the West was too root out society, Westernisation of the county was a deliberate sideline.

The fastest/easiest route out of a dangerous place will not necessarily take you to the nearest country... the border might be closer, but far more dangerous than trying to get on a plane. If you're desperate, you take the best option available to you. As any of us would.

sqad; I use the word, as do many English speakers not only philosophers, not to show off, but because the nearest word in English 'world view' isn't adequate.

In relation to a Muslim it is a total outlook on themselves personally & to society, to politics & leadership, God & religion, family, history & the universe.

Our 'Weltanschauung' is different from theirs as you need look no further to see than how the immigrant population of Europe has singularly failed to follow the socialist ideology of 'integration'.
They don't want our politics & lifestyles, but they are happy to have what might be called the creature comforts.

Integration is a myth & it is wrong to think that the typical Afghani longs to live like we do.

I agree to taking those who worked with Coalition forces but not refugees en mass
Would they not be better served relocating in nearby Muslim countries instead ?
I want to see bordering Arab and Muslim countries doing their fair share for a change instead of relying on the West for everything
Ironic that my local council is asking for landlords to get in touch if they have empty properties
I would rather see us sort our own homeless first and especially ex forces people
It would be just like this country to house an Afghan before one of our own citizens
Maybe a few lefty politicians will adopt an Afghan along with Lineker ?
Will not hold my breath though
