This reminded me of something I read recently on facebook: "My friend suffered some idiot on the bus in Blackpool the week after the Brexit referendum. My mate's of Bangladeshi heritage. His parents came over in the 60's and he was born here. This guy told him:"You'll have to *** off home now pal." No more sponging here." He replied: " I'm on my way home to Bispham...

From the CPS website,

'Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (as amended)

This Act created a number of specific offences of racially aggravated crime, based on offences of wounding, assault, damage, harassment and threatening/abusive behaviour. The Act defines "racial group" as a group of persons defined by reference to race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins.'

Ah well, PP. You know what Johnson (or Boswell?) said in relation to the turnip and those of the Scottish persuasion!
What if the letter had been aimed at say French or Germans, would it still be racist?
Question Author
Yes, I believe it would , any letter with such content would be , to a person that’s legitimately here
Is it acceptable for someone to have worries about people from other countries taking jobs or housing or is it always racist to voice these concerns?
I believe it's acceptable if some of your best friends are from that country, dave50.

Unwritten but oft resorted to rule.
Seems like they have also taken their school places too judging by the spelling and grammar.

He replied: " I'm on my way home to Bispham sir, where I've always lived. If you fancy a health check after you've sobered up, drop by my surgery tomorrow and I'll give you a once over. "
What a cracking reply that was Lankeela, well done to him.
I can’t think of a racist comment from any source that would offend me. I’m white English and impervious to any derogatory reference to my colour, gender, or social status. Why do others take such dramatic umbrage, rather than dismiss such childish ignorance?
"I’m white English"

Try going to the Caribbean, Argentina or Zimbabwe.
JimF. I’ve been to many places. Argentina, Africa, USA, even the Isle of Wight. but my point is I don’t get offended by words. Deeds are quite another matter.
The majority of people respond to abusive remarks regarding their race in a way similar to Lankeela's friend above and I applaud that calm approach in the face of such ignorance.

However not everyone has the same level of tolerance and should we really be bringing our children up to shrug in the face of such jibes or should we be working harder to teach folk to have a civil tongue in their heads?
My children were taught. Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names can never hurt me. It takes more effort to get angry than to ignore.

remind me

when I am reproved in the strongest possible one-liner ( stupid man, stupid answer, foo, what dat den, foo again ) by a lady usual -suspect (*)
I am reminded about Dr Johnson and a woman preaching ( as they preach at me...)

(*) a usual suspect of the fairest gender
so giving the letter writer a good kicking is not on the agenda

how very un-AB !
yeah OK you want to pull out the finger nails of his writing hand?

yup got it

( wiv thx to Joyce Grenfell)
