Who's responsibility is it to deal with these and why has it been left to get this bad and dangerous. Tenants say they have tried to contact the council to sort the problems out but they've been ignored.

I must admit that whenever I have spoken to Croydon Council I've found them quite abrupt and one person even put the phone down on me.

I would say open some windows, if it's that bad, why are all the curtains not mouldy? Just asking.
It's a shame that people in
rich countries have to live in such conditions

It's not just mould though. There's water leaking as well.
tigger do you know when it was broadcast?
It was on tonight's ITV News At Ten. Open some windows?????????
The most stupid remark i have ever read on here.
it's bad but it also looks like they are not cleaning up what they can themselves. A lot of that is clean up able. Look at those plug sockets etc they could be wiped clean for example.
OK Ken I didn't see it.
If i was them i would stop paying my rent and council tax,the council would start getting onto their case thereafter.
Within 24 hours of ITV getting in touch with Croydon Council, the two people interviewed by News At Ten were moved into a hotel. An independent expert reckoned they were in danger of being electrocuted. There was just one room in the woman's flat that wasn't affected - a bedroom - so she and her two kids virtually lived in that one room - eating, sleeping, playing.
The guy who was interviewed had 4 buckets to collect the water - that Croydon Council said wasn't dripping - that dripped from his ceiling. He emptied these buckets every 6 hours.
OK Ken just seen clip from ITV news, people shouldn't be living in these conditions, but why haven't the council done the repairs?
I wonder if they will be claiming a refund of all the rents and council taxes they paid before being put up in the hotel?
TTT, not you as well. The woman is at her wits end. How many times can she clean things before she has a breakdown? It hasn't just appeared! As fast as they clear it up, it re-appears but the council have barely shown an interest. No-one has been sent to look at the problem. And while only two of the residents were interviewed, ITV spoke to several more residents who were having the same problems.
Why haven't the council done the repairs? You tell me Tony. I watched it in total disbelief. As a decorator i have had to deal with some properties so run down they have quite a bit of mould on the ceilings and walls. But nothing like what i saw on the news. Totally unacceptable.
As ive said Ken these people should stop paying their rents and council taxes right now.
It's scandalous, how people are left in these pitiful conditions.
Yet the councillors get fat pensions. We should abolish councils, they are money pits. Central government could implement a better and cheaper system.
Soul destroying - and I hope everyone in that block who is affected is also moved somewhere safe while thorough repairs are carried out.
The fact that it's Croydon Council speaks volumes.
...and also stop paying their rents and council taxes at the same time too,Mamy...
Mamy, i'm just surprised that none of the residents (as far as we know) have come down with chest infection from the black spores of the mould.
Must give a big 'up' to ITV for making it their lead story when so much else is going on at the moment.
