One of the worst Firework display that I ever attended was at Drayton Manor Park & Zoo.
Had a great day out, enjoyed riding coasters and looking around the zoo.
However, when the firework display began, I was too distressed to enjoy it as the sound of the animals, when it started, was appalling.
Didnt hear any news though, of any animals dying of fright.

There are many sound reasons for keeping fireworks out of the hands of the public and ensuring that those that are set off are done safely as possible.

What's imperative here is to find out why this happened this time and ensure it doesn't again should the fireworks be the cause.

Apc, the usual London fireworks are just across from Waterloo. I don't remember any bird deaths being reported near it.

even licencing the fireworks may not have saved these birds, its not conclusive that they died because of the fireworks.

i feel sorry for all animals affected by fireworks, pets who are terrified of the noise, but even having them under licence won't stop them from being set off whenever.

I understand that where licensing works, it is either controlled by licences only for professional displays or you have to apply beforehand and produce the licence when purchasing. Yes I know there are arguments about illegal selling but I think it would reduce the amount of fireworks inthe hands of idiots.

I don't believe for one minute that these birds died as a result of fireworks. I understand the argument for banning them (sort of) but at least use valid reasons to back up the campaign. It's also a bit rich considering all across Europe 1000s of songbirds are netted and trapped for 'delicacies' including in Italy with fairly ineffectual campaigns to stamp it out.

prudie which is more or less what i have said in regards to bird life in this country, no one makes so much of a fuss about that here. I think it was in Greece that first came across these tiny little birds as delicacies as you put it, didn't have any by the way.
