Fed up with fireworks? Join the biggest UK firework petition and make your feelings known
#fireworkpetition and #fireworksenoughisenough https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/319891
petition is still open until 21st Jan. Please share everywhere!
but they ignored the ban seemingly?
The story says they done know the exact cause of death and only suspect the displays.

And, do you really think people who ignore a ban would bother about a licence?

Of course it was in Rome so Jack all to do with us.

They ignored the ban Emmie but if they couldn't get hold of fireworks, it wouldn't have happened.

Rome had announced a fireworks ban ahead of New Year's Eve as a means of keeping citizens, animals and the city's archaeological heritage safe, but the ban was largely ignored.

I have signed the above petition in the past and whilst I love to watch a well organised display I would lose no sleep if they were banned.

I am intrigued however, does this phenomenon happen every year in places when large displays happen?

The last time I personally saw anything remotely similar it was as a result of poisoning.
If fireworks are to blame, then why is it that only birds in Rome died en masse?
Dont other cities have firework displays?
no idea nailit, seems rather strange that they died because of a fireworks display, as you say other countries have them
You think a ban or licence will stop people getting fireworks? Its relatively easy to get the illegal ones anyway, you will just drive it all underground and then safety is compromised.

Remember, every action has other reactions and unintended consequences.

Have you read Woofie's link, I wonder?

Whilst I don’t dispute there are some dead birds in Paris, I am puzzled why we have only just found out that this can happen? I do not recall stories of thousands of dead birds in Paris last year, or the year before, or ever.
We have had fireworks for thousands of years, but only just realised that they scare the little birdies to death?
Seems a bit odd.
^ Rome, not Paris.
not Paris but Rome, as i pointed out they were banned but the display went on anyway

And do you realise how many birds roost in huge stations in cities?

As for it being nothing to do with us. It has very much to do with anybody who cares!
Where are all the dead pigeons in London after the massive firework display every new year? As the link clearly states - nobody knows the cause of these birds deaths, yet.
rather a strange story, isn't it? Huge fireworks displays all round the world on Dec 31 - though a lot less this year - and yet I've never seen dead birds piled up round a single railway station before. Did anything special happen at this station to cause it?

I remain sceptical about this, though I have no alternative explanation.

And and a licenced display would be held in an approved area.
do people care about the thousands upon thousands of birds who die because of peoples pet cats, every year, or the millions of animals who die on the roads each year, one can care of course, but doing something about it, ?
I can't see how licensing displays will help save birds.
