Easy to answer this one: voter registration figures don't take into account on-the-day registration, which is perfectly legal in at least 20 states.

I'd like to propose an alternative narrative: Trump undermines his own party's efforts to drum up the postal vote by claiming, without any evidence whatsoever, that it is fraudulent. Trump also fails to take meaningful action to halt or limit the spread of Covid-19, resulting in many states turning to mail-in voting. The result is pretty clear: Trump's supporters turn up and vote on the day, whereas Biden's supporters vote primarily by mail. Postal votes take longer to count, especially in States where ballots are legal as long as they are postmarked by November 3rd. Result: a steady trickle of votes predominantly for Biden after the glut of in-person votes.

There is no mystery, no conspiracy, and no nonsense. Trump has, in fact, done phenomenally well, considering, to get as close as he did.

Peter I don’t see how that quote could work as neatly in Russian. My Russian is not expert enough to say whether there’s a way of punning it somehow: it certainly applies to contemporary Russian elections still.

In the affidavit, Jessica Connarn, a member of the Michigan state bar from Bloomfield Hills, said a person counting absentee ballots in Detroit told her that workers were “changing the dates the ballots were received.”

“When I approached the poll worker, she stated to me that she was being told to change the date on ballots to reflect that the ballots were received on an earlier date,” Connarn says in the affidavit.
When Connarn tried to get additional information out of this poll worker, she was “yelled at by the other poll workers working at her table,” who then told her she needed to leave and stop talking to the poll worker.
Connarn was not the only poll watcher to get denied access to that particular polling center, as multiple poll watchers were denied access due to coronavirus restrictions, WDIV reported.
But Connarn was able to get a note out of the poll worker, which stated, “entered received date as 11/2/20 on 11/4/20.”//

I certainly find it perplexing that the criminal mastermind Democrat party forgot to make sure they also won more seats in the House of Representatives and took control of the Senate. Now they won't have the ability to insert 30 liberal judges into the Supreme Court either. Ah, well. Better luck next time, conspirators!

Having worked as a counting clerk at our general election I could understand a recount if the numbers were out by a handful, but the system is such that they are counted in small bundles and checked off against the number of ballot papers issued so how they can demand a recount of thousands I just cannot see.

Just wading back to the recount question, states have various margins within which recounts may be demanded.
On the speed of the count, we are talking large amounts of votes here. And batches of votes outstanding which individually dwarf the totals in UK constituencies. When you also consider that there are multiple elections taking place (two houses and state governors) it’s impressive it’s as quick as it is.
