a quarter of UK is under some sort of lockdown restrictions.
Do you think that a national lockdown is likely?
I don't think it is but perhaps rolling lockdowns area by area are likely for a long time.
So tired of covid!

they're desperate not to have another national lockdown. Local lockdowns have been surprisingly ineffective, though

Think it will happen soon.
No

I wonder if bookies are taking bets... I just had a quick look online but can't see that they are
I think we are all tired of covid. The national symptom reporting app (not the NHS, the King's College one) one is showing miniscule flattening in its stats so hopefully the whack a mole lockdowns are working. https://covid.joinzoe.com/data
Yes, eve, also tired of all this. What strikes me is that areas which went into new lockdowns earlier on this Autumn are still in them. Latest graphs I saw (which may be out of date) seem to say that infections there are still rising. Only thing I can think is that they don't work.

Thats an interesting link Woof'.

jourdain have a look at the link woof sent -- that seems up to date. Easy to understand too. Although - I don't hold much store in any stats, of any country. Too much variance in how the stats are compiled
I would encourage those of you who can to download that app and report your symptoms or lack of them. it takes less than a minute daily and once a week they ask a few more questions which you can answer or not. all fast, easy and anonymous.
Well, Bolton has now ended its “lockdown” (not really a lockdown compared to what happened in March) so it must have had some impact there at least
A national lockdown won't happen again. They'll just keep doing it locally, like when you put the wallpaper on and flatten down the bubbles as they appear.
Yes,they've relaxed the hold they had on us Boltonians.
There will not be another national lockdown. There are plenty of places were corona cases are low. There is also a rural/urban divide.

I am surprise that London seems to have escaped lockdown. There are parts of London comparable with the nortern lockdown areas, but nothing happens.
My town (Warrington) is unfortunately in lockdown and I absolutely hate it. I have just got used to seeing my friends again and now I can no longer see them while all this madness lasts ! On local news this morning, they are saying local lockdowns don't work and yet they still persist in doing it. I'm with you Eve, so tired of all this !
Tomus @ 23;39 Sat; "Just like when you put the wallpaper on and flatten down the bubbles as they appear."
If the wallpaper were applied correctly in the first instance, there would be no bubbles. Just saying :-)

depends what the government's goal is in having local lockdowns. local controls won't halt the spread, just delay/flatten it. if all the government is looking to do is slow the progress then there will be no national lockdown. if however the goal is to stop and eliminate the virus, much much more stringent measures will be needed. unless contact is practically eliminated the virus will spread, and keep on spreading until it runs out of victims to infect. such a goal will require a national lockdown, and probably one that will effectively put life on hold for several weeks - no sneaky taking the dog for a walk, or nipping to the shops.....
All these local lockdowns will eventually just join up with each other to produce a national lockdown
Can someone explain how me taking a dog for a walk and not getting close to anyone could possibly have any effect on anyone else? I don't 'do' close anyway, and have hardly met with anyone other than one family member - most stuff ordered online with a very occasional visit to a supermarket to stock up and keeping a distance from any other shoppers. During a recent local outbreak I didn't even visit the supermarket in our town for a few weeks till it was deemed 'safe'.
There will be one over Christmas.

you are probably careful and conscientious, but there are plenty who aren't - not wilful, but just clumsy or forgetful. it happens. when it does, people meet, and the virus spreads. while we have neither this nor that situation of partial lockdowns and other barely thought out measures, the virus cannot be properly controlled, only slowed. the government needs to wake up and smell the coffee. if it wants to eradicate the virus then total lockdown is the only way. just playing with it will just prolong the seemingly endless situation we're now in.
