I meant sent the "bill" of course.
A bit much to expect the BBC to double as an NHS outpost ...
It's only been dropped because there will be no audience there to sing it. Will be interesting to see what they do next year!
Ichkeria, //It was a daft idea, it's been dropped.//

No .. it hasn't. The music will be played but say goodbye to the lyrics. The BBC is treating its audience as fools - and sadly its ploy appears to be succeeding.
"With much reduced musical forces and no live audience, the Proms will curate a concert that includes familiar, patriotic elements such as Jerusalem and the National Anthem, and bring in new moments capturing the mood of this unique time, including You'll Never Walk Alone, presenting a poignant and inclusive event for 2020," the statement said.

It seems sensible to me. If there ever was a plan to "drop" these pieces that is.
But keep on being outraged
Although I am sick to death of the pandemic hand-wringing, even I can see that to persist with the tradition versions, when there's no one there to sing them, this year, would be inappropriate.
Well, it worked for you too, Ichkeria. Don't ask why Jerusalem will be sung though. That could cause you an element of confusion.
The BBC has indeed capitulated to woke. They triumphantly tell us they will go ahead with Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia but purely orchestrated. No Lyrics. Why not? I believe they are allowing 'You'll never walk alone' and 'Jerusalem' to be sung by a soloist. Why not a small choir as well. Surely it is not beyond the ingenuity of the BBC to arrange social distancing for 40 choristers in a bloody great hall!
The big pathetic objection are the lyrics, 'Britains never never will be slaves' .
They shoe horn a left wing Finn conductor, Dalia Stasevska, in to achieve their purpose in appeasing BLM at the same time.
Damned if I am going to listen to a soloist warbling a football supporters dirge instead of our national treasures.
"Neither will be sung even though a soprano will perform the National Anthem, Jerusalem and You'll Never Walk Alone"

Why would that be confusing?
I am confused as to why I ought to be confused
Dang it you're right!
You are indeed confused.
??
Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia are crowd anthems really, esp the former.
Admittedly so is YNWA, but it was sort of one of the choons of Covid I believe.
//Not paranoid, simply wary.
Footballers and police have done it.
Is that right? //

Theland
You ask is that right? Under some circumstances. Yes. Not only the police or footballers take the knee you know !

How is a claim that Britons never, never, never shall be slaves, racist ?
It is claimed that it refers back to our imperialist days when we dabbled with slavery. Anything these days,to do with our history and success is now tabboo it appears. I believe Cecil Rhodes was responsible for the lyrics of Land and Hope of Glory and we all know what BLM think about him. They conveniently forget the Rhodes Scholarship that puts thousands of overseas students through university via his bursarys.

Here is the link with reasons given although some of our anti-British residents here will dismiss it as it is from the dreaded Newspaper they fear.

Britons never, never, never shall be slaves,' is clearly making no reference to the nation's involvement in the slave trade. That interpretation has to be the result of a mind determined to impose a meaning on it that it doesn't have. It refers to the existence of slavery, and of a belief that in the future, Britons will not ever be slaves again.

And some seem to be confused with the difference between nationalism and racism.

I see it's still only 'black lives' that are claimed to matter. Would have hoped that ill conceived claim would have died a death by now.

So it seems that, as usual, it's a fuss about the existing situation created simply to cause trouble.
//So it seems that, as usual, it's a fuss about the existing situation created simply to cause trouble. //

Spot on OG .A big dollop of Black Power muscle flexing ,as well, no doubt.
There is no reason, that I can see, why a small group cannot sing the words, which could also be put on screen to allow a singalong at home for any who are a bit unsure of all the lyrics. Because they are not doing that, it does seem that they are bowing to the 'woke' brigade at the expense of the rest of the country and that is far from OK.
"wider still and wider
shall our bounds be set
God, who made thee mighty
make thee mightier yet"

I bet the atheists LOVE that one

personally I don't care.
The BBC has, for years, supported The Proms. Massive support. Including, every year, broadcasting Last Night of the Proms live, dominating a Saturday evening's viewing.

Who here is seriously arguing that the BBC does not support the Last Night of the Proms? It supports it way more than any other individual or organisation, and always has.

This year is obviously different. No audience. Next year is back to normal, hopefully, if there's a means to allow such crowds back in to the Royal Albert Hall.
I think that misses the point that it now seems being used for a PC/woke statement.
