Seeing as some seem quick to defend the actions of Derek Chauvin et al during the arrest and subsequent killing of George Floyd because of his past, I would like to know what your feelings are on the past history of the man arrested for the second degree murder of Mr Floyd?

divegirl - // The man was dead and still no one cared... you cannot defend that surely? // Retrocop could be said to be having a good go at it! Although he denies such defence, and I accept his view on that.

//Derek Chauvin.... Interesting History....//

Not really. If the Guardian want to scrape the barrel ,dish the dirt they should make charges that stick.
One example was Chauvin attending the scene of a suspected crime in progress with others. The suspect reached for a gun and was shot dead by another officer (s). Chauvin did not fire his weapon but was 'placed on leave'. Nothing to see here. Move along. Officers will shoot to kill if their life is threatened with other lethal force. They are trained to do so.
Second example. Suspect stabs woman and turns knife on Police when they arrive. Chauvin was present. Ditto the above. Don't threaten an armed police officer with a lethal weapon. Police Officers are not paid enough to take hits lest it offends others.

Chauvin is now awaiting due process for his latest activity.
Floyds rap sheet is fact based on evidence and conviction.
Floyd had a choice wether to indulge himself in serious crime.
Chauvin made a career choice whereby he was obliged to defend himself on more occasions that any one else would enjoy so if the Guardian really need to display his discipline record why bother showing occasions where his only 'crime' was being present with others to prevent crime and did not participate in the shooting and another incident where he was exonerated.
//Chauvin was one of five officers who were placed on leave after they shot and wounded an indigenous man in 2011, the Daily Beast reported. Later that year, officers had been responding to a domestic violence call, and Chauvin claimed that the man reached for his gun. The man was shot (not by Chauvin, but by a different officer) and wounded. Authorities later determined that the officers had acted “appropriately”.//

In 2006, Chauvin was one of several officers involved in the shooting death of a man who stabbed others before turning on the police.

//Although Klobuchar was the Hennepin county attorney at the time of an October 2006 police shooting involving Chauvin, she did not prosecute and instead the case went to a grand jury that declined to charge the officers with wrongdoing in 2008.//
It doesn't make any difference if Derek Chauvin adopted 6 black kids and raised them in a loving family unit, Retro.

All the video evidence points to him being responsible for the death of a handcuffed suspect.

There was no reason on this earth to carry on with the pressure on George Floyd's neck for so long. (well is there?)

I hope he goes to prison for a very long time.
I wouldn't want to be the ADA chosen to prosecute this case. I say ADA because I doubt very much indeed if the State DA will touch it. Of course there's always a possibility that the Feds will take over.
Zero chance of a fair trial now, is there?
roy
I agree with you. I just wish the sheeple would stop clutching at straws.
We all saw the video. Let the court decide if he set out to murder or he over zealously misused an accepted Minneapolis Police procedural method of restraint. Most, not all, Police Departments have walked away from this method. Minneapolis PD still have it in their training manual. Chauvin used it and it went horribly wrong.
Did he deliberately apply it incorrectly or was it applied accidentally to cause death? Let the courts decide but I doubt his trial will be totally impartial now that many states are burning.
you just beat me to that Spicey.
He brought it upon himself Spicey. Only this time it was caught on camera and anyone attempting to defend his actions will have a very hard time. He deserves everything he gets.
I don't care what a manual tells a person...if a handcuffed man goes unconscious that should be enough to tell even the most stupid copper that it is probably time to get his knee of the neck.
//even the most stupid copper that it is probably time to get his knee of the neck. //

Yes. Another defence plea. A stupid dumb copper. Might work.
As I posted on another thread, I feel the manner of the man’s death was disgraceful.

But...

Get a grip Divegirl, this happened a continent away to somebody who means nothing to you and you say “...it is something I am really struggling with right now.”

You should join the other virtue signallers in the UK who have taken this up as a means to show how achingly virtuous you and they are.

The manner of the death was awful and was a total overreaction by the copper, but the response in the UK has also been a total overreaction.
Had George Floyd been shot dead when holding a knife to the stomach of a pregnant lady, that would have been a whole new ball game.
As it was, I really do believe that I watched a murder taking place before my very eyes when watching the video of Chauvin kneeling - nonchalantly - on the man's neck. Anyone wishing to justify the cop's actions ought to take a long hard look at the sickening video. One of the witnesses can clearly be heard - almost a dozen times - tell Chauvin that Floyd is not responsive. The same guy also asks if they are trying to kill him. Meanwhile Chauvin calmly keeps his hands in his pockets and his knee of George Floyds neck. The video is almost 5 minutes old when Chauvin drags his victim onto a stretcher. Murder. Pure and simple!
I think they will have to find 12 good men/women who have not had access to a TV set or radio in the last 10 days or perhaps someone who has been out in the boonies for the last two weeks. A hard call to find them for a jury.
And what will be the ratio of black to white in those 12 good men/women?
Jackthehat posted this link on another thread

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/31/us/george-floyd-investigation.html

Well worth a watch to see how disgusting and callous Chauvin actually was. He had to be told to get on Loyd's neck by the paramedics.
I wouldn't like to be him if he is sentenced to a jail term.
He is in prison right now, although probably not in the general population. His bail is set at $500,000...I wonder if the Police Union will raise that for him.
tigger, I notice you defend Floyd on every thread you come on - why is he so important to you, it's as if you knew him?
Well, she hasn't defended him on this thread, daisy.

Although there is plenty who are happy to ignore the fact that Floyd was a scumbag.

I'm not sure that George Floyd's criminal lifestyle is being ignored.
I think it is more that it doesn't seem terribly pertinent to the manner in which he died.
