Ok so now the dim will start smoking, failing to realise that smoking kills much more than the CV. Getting people off smoking has been a long and arduous process the last thing we need is to encourage them back on.

It's not encouraging people to smoke - in fact it specifically says that. Please read properly.

it will get people addicted to nicotine, end of.
No it won't in the short time it's applied as Covid treatment.

nicotine is highly addictive no matter how it is administered.
Trump said this is a very intelligent virus; has it learn that smokers are bad for its health?
Hang on..surely its the smoke and tar going into the lungs that kills the virus, not the nicotine?
Weird though, isn't it.
A counterintuitive result, to be sure. But I don't agree with the premise of the question. In any case, this is scientists announcing the results of their research, which they are obliged to do for both professional and ethical reasons.

APG: in the article: "A study at Paris's Pitie-Salpetriere hospital suggests a substance in tobacco, thought to be nicotine, was preventing smokers contracting coronavirus." - smoking cloggs up the lungs with various gunge and so does the virus. I suspect the virus would be greatly assisted by smoking but it has to infect first and it would seem that nicotine is making that more difficult.
Hence the nicotine patches.

No smoke without fags.
It's about time us smokers had some good news (and this is not the first time I've seen reference to smokers being less at risk). People have been so terrified by this virus through the media that I don't see them as dim at all if that's what they choose to help protect themselves. Smoking kills but it doesn't kill you in a couple of weeks.
Well this is a bummer, Prudie.....we can't light up to keep folk away from us now..... :-(
Prudie, //Smoking kills but it doesn't kill you in a couple of weeks. ..

That's exactly what I thought ... and I don't smoke.
More strain on the NHS. Not immediately, obvs.
Oh I'm sure you've had your moments, Naomi. :-)
It would be an explanation of the anxiety complex.
