That’s just it tho, there shouldn’t be any struggle in times like these. We should all be pulling in the same direction.
doug: "You can't be 'tripped up' if you tell the truth. " - oh dear!
The government are saying self-employed workers are getting help. They are not. GOV.uk have a Q&A page up to check eligibility but the 'apply now' button directs you to a page that says its not possible to apply yet and won't be until mid june.
Shouldn't incompetence and dishonesty be challenged by the media?
Excellent rebuttal there, Tora. I may have suffered a mortal wound.
well It's breath taking naivety, I barely know where to start!
You state the obvious.
you mean it's obvious that: "You can't be 'tripped up' if you tell the truth. " is Bowl0cks ?
The plan has always been that HMRC will contact self employed in may and start the claim process with avira to making first payments in June. I assume backdated. Is UC nor an option in the meantime? I think hmrc and govt are working remarkably quickly on all this.
APG, I know 2 self employed businesses that are getting money from the government right now. One is a paintshop and one is a hairdresser.
No, I mean you barely know where to start.

Inventing a catchphrase and running with it has served you well in the past though, try that.
history is littered with politicians who were forced to resign because they told the truth. You can't be that stupid. On the other hand....
I'm amazed - or perhaps I shouldn't be - that the headlines following each day's press briefings bear no resemblance to what I heard at those events.
For APG. This is from Money Saving Expert

-You don't need to apply – you'll be contacted. If you're eligible for the scheme, you'll be contacted (we're not sure yet if this'll be by letter or online). HMRC says it hopes to have done this by mid-May.

-This scheme's expected to start paying out in June. Payments will likely be backdated to cover March, April and May (in the form of a lump sum). The scheme will operate across the UK and is set to last for at least three months, though this could be extended.

-Unlike the employee scheme, here you CAN keep working. You also do not need to prove coronavirus impact – all who qualify get it.

-You CAN apply for both the scheme and universal credit. The best approach is to apply for universal credit now, and if you start receiving self-employed income support in June too then this will be classed as income, meaning the amount of universal credit you receive will decrease.

So it's true they haven't receive anything yet (but neither have most furloughed staff) (not sure what support TTT is referring too that some self employed have got)- but lots of work is being done to set up backdated payments, and UC is available in emergencies. Those self employed who are continuing to work- and quite a few are- can actually get support on top of their self employed income.
Thank you fiction factor . My point was the Government are insinuating these payments are already in place when they are not.
I don’t normally do links to The Sun but this might be helpful:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/11456039/self-employment-coronavirus-grant-mid-may-payment-june/
This especially so:
Coronavirus: Farmers can apply for self-employed scheme https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-52363146
There's an upper limit for the net profits for self employed grant and we don't qualify.
Do you know what the Limit is, apg?
Well, I’d eat a few of the Mini Magnums in your fridge and cheer yourself up. How”S the lambing going?
