I posted a question earlier, but it has been removed - I assume because I used a word that rhymes with 'likey'. Apparently that word is racist (even though 'travellers' are as white as I am and belong to the same race as me).

Whatever....

Ignoring, if we can, AB's over developed social conscience that censors something that doesn't warrant censoring (I CAN'T be racist to people of my own race), my original question remains - do these detritus have any redeeming features?

I'm pretty sure I've kept within AB's rules, so I hope this question won't be deleted/censored.

All my experience of travellers in our area has been bad , they are guilty of pollution, trespass, theft and violence. So no for me they have no redeeming features.
Deskdiary. So you come from SE London and all the crime you have in that part of London is from Travellers? Are you kidding? I think you need to take a look at your own doorstep

237sj - I suggest you read what I wrote. Nowhere did I say "...all the crime you have in that part of London is from Travellers?"

Keep up mate - it's not that hard.
Ok. Do you know if the Travellers are the people who have been fly tipping there though?
Perhaps the need a geographically specific Redeemer.
// a word that rhymes with 'likey'. //

and they no likey - that word I mean

I am on Chris side - as for the Irish brawling - you dont need to be a traveller for that

The thing is, people who have never properly experienced 'travelers', like Ummm, don't really have a right to comment. Unless you've experienced these scum bags, the best course of action is to shut the *** up.
And you have?
>>> "I CAN'T be racist to people of my own race"

Perhaps you need to take a look at Section 28 (4) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1988, Deskdiary:
"“racial group” means a group of persons defined by reference to race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins"
Deskdiary it has been explained to you that the p word you use for travellers is derogatory and your post using this term was removed for that reason. Yet you continue to use the word with a "clever" little full stop to prevent detection. This says more about the kind of person you are, than you could ever say about the kind of people the travellers are. Just plain nasty.
If Deskdiary is incapable of understanding that the p word is offensive, I suggest that he tries addressing a group of southern Europeans as 'w*ps and d*gos'. Getting punched in the face by them might then help to convince him that it's possible to be 'racist' to people with the same skin colour as him ;-)
Waps? Chris?
Well said Ringlet and Buen.
I spelt it wrong by accident. I don't think wop is as insulting. I have Italian friends.
*isn't as insulting
I've had an Italian workmate try to take a swing at me for simply referring to him as a 'foreigner'. I hate to think what he'd have done if I'd used the w word!
-- answer removed --
Exactly right, what you are happy with between friends is fine, speaking about strangers is different.
It might be an idea not to use words you believe not to be derogatory when most folk and dictionaries say they are.
