Don’t like either, anyway the H of Ls is already top heavy, we don’t need anymore
Elevation to the peerage shouldn't work this way anyway. But there's no point in an Upper Chamber that was filled only with the PM's allies. Wouldn't be able to function effectively as an amending chamber if everyone there is only interested in rubber-stamping his legislation.

yes jim but any PM only appoints a relative few, the rest have been there from previous PMs etc.
Needs abolishing and replacing with an elected upper house.

Not sure what Boris is thinking bunging these two 300 sobs a day for doing jack.

Yes YMB, sweep the lot away if you ask me. The problem is that most PMs and government ministers end up there so that's unlikely.
May I remind you Brexit was unlikley TTT.

Now if we had a 'Donald' it might just get done!
Question Author
yes, I suppose it'd take a PM with the orchestras to abolish his own retirement place!
Perhaps he fears a remainer being PM when it's his turn to be kicked upstairs.
For the time being, at least, it seems that every Government is willing to criticise the Lords, but is unwilling to do anything to change it. I wouldn't be that upset if Johnson sought some kind of Lords reform, although I expect that after laying into it for the last few years the Tories are happy to leave in place a handy retirement home.

Shame. There can be few stronger mandates to implement Constitutional changes than (a) Brexit, and (b) Johnson's thumping majority, and I suspect that at least reducing the size of the Other Place would be quite popular across both the Commons and the country.
As Philip Hammond pointed out the other day, he and Boris Johnson agreed on most things other than Brexit, and in fact I think there was but a huge difference even there as I don’t believe Johnson wanted a no deal Brexit any more than he did. It was just they Johnson was prepared to risk it and maybe still is.
Anyway the PM has moved on from that plainly.
Maybe you should too
The term “remainer” surely now refers to those who were previously “leavers”
:-)
When you say 'the PM is more forgiving' do you mean 'just as treacherous'?
Frankly I’m disappointed in Boris for proffering this antiquated freebie to such snakes. It’s a slap in the face to those that desired to see them slither off to their serpentarium.
Many of you have the wrong idea about the PM.
He’s a metropolitan liberal.
He’s only a pretend cloth cap and ferret jingoistic populist.
Sorry, but he is :-)
Perhaps he prefers his critics inside the tent …
