Keir Starmer has been urged by Party chairman, Ian Lavery, to ‘stand aside’ so the party can have first woman leader. ”We’ve got Rebecca Long-Bailey - Baileyism”, he said.

Oh joy! Would you agree that the Labour Party has enough problems without making even more room for its potty ‘right on’ ideas?

As if they dont have enough issues with Anti semitism now they are happy to embrace sexism full on. If they want a female leader their members will vote for one.
Labour seem to be bent on self destruction.

Perhaps Ian Lavery could stand aside for a female chairperson...?
A corbynette? Oh dear with her at the helm Labour will will ride into oblivion forever
It's actually nothing to do with sexism or wanting a female leader. They just want the next Corbyn installed to maintain the far left ownership of the party. I swear they don't actually care about winning the next election.
In any situation, it should be who is felt to be the best person for the job, whether male or female.

They don't seem to understand that what they want is not what everyone else wants. The need to acknowledge reality and move on. Their ideas are entrenched in a world that no longer exists.
I wonder if Ian Lavery would turn down a plumber on the grounds that they were the wrong gender?

As I said Woof, it's nothing to do with gender. If Keir Starmer was the Corbyn continuity candidate, Ian Lavery wouldn't be saying anything other than how brilliant Keir Starmer was.
From the outset I will say I don’t care who leads the Labour party as I not going to vote for them.

PC quotas degrade the office it is intended to promote.

I don’t care who leads as long as it is the best candidate. A woman has no more right to be in a top job just because they are a woman in the same way a man has no more right just because he is a man.

If you get your job or place in university or anywhere for anything on the back of positive discrimination you will never know if you gained it by your own hard work and ability or simply to tick a box.
he should not stand aside, if the leader ends up being a woman then she will be the genuine leader not the result of a silly sop to PC cobras.
TTT, it is not a matter of pc. Long Bailey is a Corbynite through and through which is what the leaders of the party want.
Please no. He’s the only one who sounds like he knows what he’s talking about. ( whether you agree with him or not ) .
Rebecca and the Corbynettes - has a ring to it, it sounds like a late 1950s American song group.
I think it’s ridiculous for Labour to say they must have a female leader.
Let him stand and see who the members want.
danny, they are trying to contrive a woman leader that's PC cobras.
TTT, bcause she is a Corbynite, not because she is a woman.
Is it just the chairman who is sexist and spoken out of turn; or is the whole party sexist and unfit to govern ? Is he going to apologise ? What if he'd suggested the women get out of the way and let a man sort it out ? Anyway a "continuity candidate" would guarantee a lost GE; not that they're likely to get back immediately anyway, barring some major upheaval/disaster for the country or the Tory party.
the OP says: "Keir Starmer has been urged by Party chairman, Ian Lavery, to ‘stand aside’ so the party can have first woman leader. " - what part of that is confusing you danny?
