//The ambassador added: "Arresting diplomats is of course illegal, in all countries."//
I don't think Iran plays by the rules.
Perhaps it was 'unintentional' and an 'unforgiveable mistake'?
On route to being a pariah state (if not already there) ?
They’re grasping at straws , they know they’ve committed mass murder whether accidental or not, they should be dragged through to the Haig to face charges
it goes against all protocol and they should be hauled up for it.
More likely to be dragged to the rosewater, Bobbi, or The Hague. :-)
Oops Slappppp I meant The Hague of course :0/
I don't think the Iranian government cares about diplomatic immunity.
// Later on Sunday, deputy foreign minister of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi responded, also on Twitter.

He said: "He wasn't detained, but arrested as unknown foreigner in an illegal gathering. When police informed me a man's arrested who claims to be UK Ambassador. I said IMPOSSIBLE! Only after my phone conversation with him I identified, out of big surprise, that it's him. 15 min later he was free." //

So he was at an anti-Government protest, and identified as a suspicious foreigner and detained. He told police he was the UK Ambassador and they checked with their Foreign Office, and he was quickly released. Not much of a story, and it was all cleared upviaTwitter.
perhaps, like US diplomats in London, he refused to pay a congestion charge on the ground that he'd unilaterally renamed it a tax. But then some Americans don't play by the rules.
anti-government protest? illegal? arrested?
Poor old UK ambassador. What an easy mistake to make. He forgot he wasn't watching the scenes outside the H of C for the last 3 years in dear old blighty. Vive le difference as them forriners say eh !

Was he arrested, detained and accused of inciting the mugs in Londonistan to march on the Government? Meehh.
From what I read it didn't turn into an anti-government protest until after he left.
That he wasn't there when arrested.
But I guess any excuse in a storm.
I don’t know all the details but perhaps he was arrested and kept in a holding cell as part of a mass arrest thing. Sort of round everyone up in the vicinity and see where the penny drops!!
