"The outcome, far more positive for the Tories than most opinion polls had predicted, has prompted much soul-searching within Labour, which last won a general election under Tony Blair in 2005." - you bet you're in hole me old china!

"We had a party which was largely supportive of Remain, but many of us represented Leave constituencies."

Exactly, one of the reasons many had the boot ( as so they should ).
Corbyn was toxic.
Supposedly intelligent people behaving like rabbits caught in headlights. I have to ask if they're that intelligent why are they so surprised?
it wasn't just Corbyn, their manifesto was totally unbelievable. Brexit was also in the mix, but it was Corbyn and his Jewish hating cohorts that put paid to
their dreams.
If it's too good to be true......it probably is.

Labour will never learn the truth that was highlighted by Tony Blair, that the UK does not want a far left political party and the will make the same mistake in replacing JC.

I bet they will elect an inexperienced left wing leader and worse still a female, inexperienced shadow chancellor.
Labour fails abysmally to understand that life has moved on since the 1920s and 30s. No longer down-trodden even the working man is no stranger to the trappings of a comfortable life. He doesn’t want Corbyn’s brand of politics - and he certainly doesn’t want the LibDem’s shameful disregard for his choices - and he’s said so in no uncertain terms. That champion of Remain, Hugh Grant, tweeted. ‘There goes the neigbourhood’, to which Piers Morgan replied, ‘No, there goes your credibility. The British people listened to your democracy-wrecking garbage and told you to *** off’. Sounds about right.
I keep saying, this is not a cause for celebration. We’re now in a situation where there is no credible opposition for at least 5 years.
//no credible opposition //

No change there then.
Indeed. Another 5 years of what we’ve just been through?
No. Nothing like what we've just been through.
Really? What sort of Brexit are you expecting?

Naomi, what about the working woman, was the beauty contest between young blondie and old beardy?
Was it all a vote for Boris or a vote against Jezza?

For: Brexit

Against: Corbyn and his disreputable friends; an uncosted random stream of 70s policies; a second referendum and more confusion and delay
Zacs, //What sort of Brexit are you expecting?//

Not the one I wanted - but this election was about more than Brexit - far more.

Drmorgans, //what about the working woman, was the beauty contest between young blondie and old beardy?//

No, it was between common sense and nonsense - and common sense prevailed.
Nothing is clear. We’ve no idea whether a Govt Freed from the grasp of the ERG means that Boris will be able to negotiate the soft Brexit he has always secretly wanted, or whether those very ERGers will see him as their ticket to the maintaining some form of ties to the EU.

We’ve no idea whether a deal will be possible by the end of the year, which would seem to be the only chance of escaping a Brexit with the consequence of being under WTO rules as the Cons have said they won’t countenance another extension.

the December 2020 trade deal pledge is unachievable on the terms set out in the manifesto because the 12 months that lie ahead are not really an implementation period: they are a transition to a complex and unknown new relationship that has not yet been negotiated.

It’s just like the referendum all over again, we’ve voted for something without knowing all the facts.

.........And then there’s the NI border situation..........

ZM: "Indeed. Another 5 years of what we’ve just been through? "
"Really? What sort of Brexit are you expecting? " - there's this TV program on at the moment, ZM called "the news" - have you seen it? Bojo has an 80 seat majority, Brexit is no longer and issue it'll get done now. The government can now turn attention to the many things that have been neglected whilst we have been fighting the Quislings.
I think the next few weeks / months will prove that not to be the case, Tora. I admire your optimism tho!
BTW, M D M is on Andrew Marr talking complete cobblers.
