Food Banks?

OK - fine for folks in need. But on the news a woman rolls up to the food bank in a nearly new Renault Kadjar crossover. Is she really in need?

The local food bank usually has a group of people outside smoking because they are not allowed to inside. Priorities! I am not against those in genuine need.

The tv said that she has used the food bank in the past, but was now a helper there.

Nailit, just because they'd been buying their food, doesn't mean that elderly couple could actually afford it.
Someone made the judgement that they were in need of help.

I did read your post nailit. Did they arrive at that centre out of curiosity...or were they referred? You say they had a voucher, so they must've been referred by an agency, or their doctor( I *think* doctors can make referrels).

Their comment about receiving free food really galled me.
Pensioners benefits are NOT sanctioned like those receiving Universal Credit etc.
Food banks are for those that the government have sanctioned, NOT for pensioners who see a way of getting a bit of free shopping.

Nailit...state pension isn't much to live on. What if they needed something they hadn't or couldn't foresee? If they told a doctor this he might have referred them.

We don't know the full story, or their real circumstances. Not all pensioners are living in the lap of luxury.

The woman in question was widowed twelve months ago and is now a single mum.She is also disabled. I'd think that the car had been her husbands. Maybe she can't bear to part with it just yet. We don't know how she is feeling .

Hell, I bloody WORK for the foodbank and even I can see that people take advantage. Doesn't mean that there are genuine people that rely on it to get by.

There is no system that is exempt from some chancing their luck and succeeding.

I won't judge anyone on the basis of a single remark or a car for example.

Could the car not have been one provided for her by the state because of her illness? Don't know anything at all about what cars disabled people are allowed to have but i do know they can be changed every so often - is it two year periods.
