No link as they seem to want to keep it low profile but it looks like Sainsburys have taken the decision not to sell fireworks this year. If you or someone you know are affected by the constant barrage of noise, mess and smoke that happens at this season (and when did Firework Night become Firework season?) then you might like to comment on their facebook page or website? Hopefully another step in the right direction.

Much as I would love to say something to spath, I realise it would be a complete waste of time so I won't waste my time and energy. This is just to let anyone know who might be interested in contacting Sainsburys. I wrote them an email to congratulate them for taking this stance, but unfortunately, it has come back as having the wrong email address. I left the s off so...

I know people are doing it too.
Good Barsel, the more the merrier eh ...
When I phoned sainsburys to get the correct email address I did ask the customer service lady if she knew if other supermarkets would follow but she didn't know.
If not this year, maybe next ..
Hi Barsel. I think councils do advertise events, but not sure if it is required. However, whilst fireworks can be bought by adults who can put on there own displays or use them at random, or even give them to kids, we can't eradicate the problem. If only licenced people can buy them, then they can be held responsible for any misuse.
Barsel, on a lighter note, our stupid dog sat on the back of the sofa in the conservatory watching the shoot in the field behind us, wagging her tail and thoroughly enjoying it. (Whilst I hate it!)

They do respond Barsel
NellieMay. Your dog will be used to loud bangs then or is she afraid of fireworks?
As soon as I hear from them I'll let you know. x
I dont know Barsel. I doubt if she would be afraid of fireworks because she isn't afraid of anything. We don't hear anything here anyway.
She's a dippy very small cockerpoo!
I bet she's really cute.x
Some dogs can accept loud bangs. Mostly working dogs that are trained as retrievers at shoots. Handbag rats usually shiver at a sneeze. :-(
Beg your pardon. I wasn't referring to your cockapoo as a handbag rat lest you take offence.
I know you weren't talking about her Retro and no offence taken. I think she really wanted to be out there with the shoot. She was so excited!

I don't think its about size or breed of dog. Mine are Wei x GSP. Grandad was a show and trials winner; their parents (they are litter brothers were family pets belonging to the same lady who couldsn't count) were both lovely calm stable family pets. They are not nervous or uncertain about anything else, just thunderstorms and fireworks. Sadly they have very acute hearing and will hear fireworks that I cannot and I have got excellent hearing. One of them will sleep next to the TV when there is a war film on so its not that they are nervy. He is also weatherwise and usually knows when a storm is coming or will pass close by, I suspect its something to do with the drop in air pressure. All of my dogs have been raised by me from puppies, no rescues and I have had other dogs who totally ignored fireworks as well as another who hated them.
These are what you call fireworks. The annual display by the largest friework manufacturer in the world - Zambellis. They do this for free, to test all their new product range.
It gets ridiculous around here, had loads already and a lot of the kids don't even both waiting for it to get dark before letting off rockets.

Was kept awake the other night by them letting off really loud ones (loud enough to really make you jump every time) past 11pm, not great when I have to be up for work in the very early hours.

There have been a lot of issues with antisocial behaviour with fireworks round here, and I imagine elsewhere. just a few of the articles here.

Eve, that's shocking but I just realised something when watching those clips. If the sale of fireworks to the general public was banned, would people buy illegal fireworks which could be even deadlier?
I hope Spath comes back and has a read of those clips from the MEN.
