I admire her courage and fortitude, but do you think that this is a waste of a place at medical school?

Would you be happy to be examined and diagnosed by a blind and almost totally deaf doctor ?

I certainly wouldn't.

The heading is a bit misleading as she is still a medical student.

I tried to make an appointment with her, but she said she couldn't see me.

Her final exams and her pre-registration requirements will have to be designed to her disabilities.
Her finals will involve surgical cases and medical cases and her post graduate posts will include A&E and also a surgical post.
She will have to have a privileged approach to these problems before she is allowed to choice her training.
I sympathise, but feel that her place at medical school has been wasted.
It's hardly being ignored when it's in pride of place, is it Andy?

That's only because Sqad and Ludwig share a similar sense of 'humour' - best ignored otherwise I am sure you will agree.
God almighty. Who would wish to suffer Andy-Hughes next to you as an in patient in-ward. 'Come sweet death'. A BA well deserved imo
The problem is, Sqad, that most people today appear to understand or believe that some individuals are abnormal. The word is not to be used...Abnormality does not exist. Look at some of the posts on here more or less saying "Aw, bless." or "Go, girl, go.". Normal doctors have normal eye-sight and normal vision. This woman is abnormal in the facts that she does not, and it's ridiculous to vision her (pun?) performing normally in any branch of medicine.
That should read "appear to not understand...".
It could be worse, she could be training to be an airline pilot. Now that would be scary!
When I saw the heading, 'Blind Doctor', I thought it was referring to a window blind repairer. However, when i realised the true meaning, it made me think of the one legged man being interviewed for the acting role of Tarzan :-

Surely we must accept that there are Horses for Courses.

Hans.
On a visit to see my GP he asked me to call back in a week so that he could discuss blood test results and other stuff.

I told him that he could just phone me, it would be easier. He said that he wanted to look me in the eye so that he could tell if I was telling porkie pies. ☺

Indeed we must. I'm afraid that the pendulum with "nobody must be discriminated against" on one side and "everybody must have equal opportunity" on the other has swung too far in one direction. It is quite obvious that sight and hearing are absolutely essential for just about every doctor:patient interaction. I'm sure there's plenty of useful and worthwhile work this obviously very resolute young lady can become involved with. Alas treating sick people is not among it. Of course there's more to medicine than having the sick parade before you and I hope she finds an avenue to exercise her skills and determination.
I think quite a few people who trained as doctors became MPs.
and Harry Hill's made a better living as a comic.
Well, if they become MPs I guess they no longer subscribe to the maxim: "First, do no harm.":)
This is a biography I'll be reading.

I congratulate myself if I manage to thread a needle.

I cannot see how you can have a blind and almost deaf doctor.
She could assist at the ebola clinic where her sensory lack would be an advantage.
It's interesting that one example of a blind doctor has been found; it's an amazing story. However, it does not change the fact that I for one, and I'm sure that their are many, many more people, would definitely not place myself under the care of a blind and deaf doctor no matter what branch of medicine he/she specializes in.
Oh, I don't mind if someone kills me, as long as I look like a caring person in the process.
Are you alright, andy?
Well he aint in stitches Spicey that's for sure. :-)
She has hearing aids, she can hear.
