I don't like the way that the younger generation are so scornful and judgmental of older people. It never used to be like this years ago. When I was young we respected older people . Nowadays we might just as well be thrown on the scrapheap or put to death when we reach 80 years. National Service brought discipline, respect and a sense of pride in your country....

getting young people into uniform is always popular with old people. But having it advocated by an older generaton who never did national service themselves does hit new heights of gall.
Not the slightest bit popular with me. And it took a younger president to decide to control, without justification save for their ego, the lives of young adults ? Abominable idea, he should resign in shame.
I couldn't think of a worse step for British society than to re introduce national service.
Oh I don't know about that. Some MPs have been working towards abandoning Brexit since the result of the people's vote came in.

"But having it advocated by an older generaton who never did national service themselves does hit new heights of gall."

But it was the "OLDER" generation that DID do National Service.
No one could force me to do national service.
Given the attitude of some of the older generation that claim NS is a good idea is exactly why NS should never be brought back.
I would rather spend 3 years in jail than do even a month of national service.
And if everyone had the same ideology as me, the whole system would be flumped

For one they wouldn't have enough cells.
Sqad The last man to do national service in the UK is now in his 80's if he is still alive. I am guessing therefore that the people who are now advocating it didn't do it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-32929829
I just read the article and the gilets jaunes are cited as an example of divisions in France. The 4 week program is designed to "promote cohesion"....well I am looking from the outside but the GJ's seemed to be plenty cohesive to me. TTT I am assuming youn didn't do national service and have no idea about its benefits or otherwise other than what you "think"
Maybe we need to take care of what is wished for. Is this just the thin end of the wedge? The first step in raising a EUSSR conscript army? An army raised from the millions of immigrants that the regime is awash with. An army that would be more than willing to take up arms against the indigenous European people who dare to show disdain and dissent for the globalist ponzi scheme. I wrote this some time ago, not sure whether I posted it here or on another site.
Looks like I may have been aiming in the right direction after all.

//"Mrs Meerkat isn't going to like this "compare the (Common) Market" to other organisation dot cons. is she? How she must wish that they had an army of millions to threaten the dissenters just like the original Soviet State did.(Remember Hungary). They don't have the "manpower", nor you may think millions of young able bodied men with no discernable employment to train and equip. They certainly wouldn't likely find them amongst the indigenous European populace would they. However have there not recently just been millions of just such young able bodied men imported into the EUSSR? Maybe that is the ultimate plan. Why not persuade them to take on the role of EUSSR enforcers with the promise of a stake in the future of the ponzi scheme? An EUSSR army(which they greatly covet) in the making. The new Mamaluk army of conquest and enforcement anyone? "//
I`m not sure teaching more young people how to kill is a great idea we already have a significant number of amateurs doing that in London.
Ah but, Sqad, in the UK it was only the current REALLY OLD "older generation" which did National Service. JNO's point is perfectly valid.
It ended in 1961 and – given that it lasted two years – the final entrants went in in 1959. One had to be 18 to be called up so one’s date of birth must have been in 1941 or earlier. That means all surviving British ex-National Servicemen are 78 or older now.
That makes them the “REALLY OLD older generation”, as stated above.
President Macron, for example, would have missed it, had he been British and he’s the one responsible for reintroducing it in France. In any case, the link material makes it plain that it will be more of a scout camp than anything else. Hardly, what I and others had to face in Britain!
My apologies, Woofgang.Your answer wasn't there when I started typing mine out.
quizmonster// Hardly, what I and others had to face in Britain!//
Do you think that you gained anything from your experience?
woof //The last man to do national service in the UK is now in his 80's if he is still alive//
He's still alive, - and kicking!
I love this country, we expect to be looked after from birth to death by the state but give something back? never, is the reply.
Why does everybody who's against national service only relate to how it used to be and hasn't been around for nearly sixty years? Modern day national service could be giving something back to the community, is that so bad?
I give something back every time i buy something or pay tax from my wages. The gov are constantly winning. I don't need to put my life on the line in regards to national service for them. They can do one.
Vulcan forced community service defeats the point in making prisoners do it.
