If he tried that on my house I'd have used any means to eject the *&^%er, not let him walk around the place looking into private things. Would I have been within my rights to defend my property with force? I think I would be. Why is this guy not being prosecuted and sued to within an inch of his pond life? God I hate these ***, one of the jobs for bullies and those that enjoy inflicting misery, in this case on innocents. Rant over!

Authoritative and Firm do not mean arrogant tbf.
No, authoritative and firm don't mean arrogant, but “'My name's Gary Brown but you'll know me from Can't Pay? We'll Take it Away!” does.

I watch it, but wouldn’t have recognised him.

I see the programme now and again and I'm always amazed how many back doors are left open/unlocked.
Me to. My doors are always locked.
And I don't keep a key under the plant pot, either!
spath do you know what arrogant means?
Yes.
so you think its ok for bailiffs and others of that ilk to "Have or reveal an exaggerated sense of their own importance or abilities."
Yes. They are bailiffs acting on behalf of the courts. Their work is important. The people who they deal with can be very awkward. They need to take that stance.
spath have you been missing out on your pills again?
you really think Bailiffs should have an exagerrated sense of their own importance? I mean really?
Spath //Yes. They are bailiffs acting on behalf of the courts//
In this case he was acting on behalf of a private debt recovery firm. Not on behalf of the courts.

Authoritative and Firm spath not arrogant
This happened to me many moons ago and it was scary. We lived in the LB of Merton then and it was at the time they introduced the poll tax.Merton council tacked an extra payment onto the bills with no breakdown as to what this was for.We ,and others queried it and the council said it was to make up the shortfall for those who refused to pay.
We paid our bill but withheld the extra payment while we argued about it with the council as we didn't see that we were responsible for other peoples non payment. This rumbled on and on of course the money owed stacked up and they sent a bailiff round who pushed his way in and started weighing up our possessions.I was alone in the house at the time.
The dog went mad ,I told the guy his fortune and then started to call the police whereupon he hopped it pdq. The council wrote off the money in the end. I wasn't the only person it happened to either.Others just paid up,more fool them.
I would feel very, very angry and in fact I'd probably have steam coming out my ears, but I wouldn't resort to violence mainly because I am not a spring chicken any more !

On an aside, agchristie, I imagined you to be an 'older' lady! Funny the impressions you make on here ..
Other people perceive bailiffs as arrogant. Doesn't mean they are. If someone perceives the attitude as arrogant then what's the problem? Who cares?

The reason they perceive them as arrogant is because they in the situation are authoritarian and important, working for the courts.
Spath // working for the courts//
See my post at 12.30
Private debt collectors, are owed money.

These people have not paid, so in the baliffs eyes, they're just doing their job trying to be as emotionless as possible

They wouldn't know it was the wrong house, and if you said it was, they probably wouldn't believe you.

As someone said, why not ask them to check with the local council? Or explain that X-name doesn't live here...
Spath, you do talk a lot of nonsense at times.Ask yourself how you would feel if some huge bully of a man pushed his way into your home unannounced.
Yeah i'd ring the police. In my opinion it is that simple.

However TTT would give him a one two lights out.
