Who are these people? Who can possibly conclude that this savage should ever see the daylight again?

//Why are you so grateful not to have to do what they do then. //

I wouldn't want to be a teacher,police officer,MP and countless other professions!

Why are you so grateful not to have to do what they do then. Is it just that it doesn't pay very well? //

You seem to be adopting your twin default positions on this type of debate -

the first is to get yourself worked up into a lather because you believe that the legal system in general, and the Parole Board in particular, is failing the citizens of the UK - which is fine

the second is get yourself into an aggressive state, and snipe at people who simply don;t happen to share your view - which is not fine.

AG has presented a perfectly reasonable point of view, and your disagreement with it does not entitle you to sneer and be sarcastic.
//The Parole Board have to work on the basis of potential redemption, and they do not act on a whim and simply send the individual out into the world and wait to see what happens. //

They assess risk. If the risk is considered acceptable (by whatever criteria they apply), then sending the individual out into the world to wait and see what happens is exactly what they do.
There is always still a risk concerning anybody who has served a sentence for serious crime and is released into the community.

Once again, your inference is that a serious criminal is released into society with a cheery wave, and the willingness to wait for the phone to ring.

Just because your scenario that they wave bye-bye and that's it fits in with your emotional reaction does not make it anything approaching the reality of what goes on.
//AG has presented a perfectly reasonable point of view,//

True, but he/she then went on to apparently contradict him/herself. I was simply picking up on that. If I wish to do that in a sarcastic manner, then I will. I don't think the much quoted Site Rules disallow sarcasm, nor patronising condescension and sermonising which is as well for all of us.
Ludwig, please advise where I contradicted myself?

Presenting in a sarcastic manner, which you appear to view as a positive, is indeed not against the Rules of the site - it is however against the spirit of debate, and if you wish to run the risk of your point being lost in the steam of your self-righteousness, then you go right ahead.

All I can do is refer you to the following posts.

If you can't see it from that then I can't help, but AH is right about one thing - you have presented a perfectly reasonable point of view, and I am not meaning to deliberately insult or antagonise you.

I couldn't give a rats april whether he's a danger or not that's not the point. The crimes are heinous and he should not get out ever.
ag......I have lost the thread of this debate..........
Yes......I am in favour of life term sentences meaning LIFE, without parole in certain murders........this being one of them.

I assumed that you agreed.
"I couldn't give a rats april whether he's a danger or not that's not the point. "

As far as i'm aware, we put people in prison to protect society ,not to punish them.
//I am not meaning to deliberately insult or antagonise you. //

Ok,thanks.

(I still don't see any contradictions mind)

In general, it's the 'certain murders' part that I query. This was the point I made earlier in the thread.

Do we define it as 'multiple killings'? 'method of killing',both?
The way I see it is, I’ve ok self control but I can very occasionally lose control. When I lose control the end result is a few bumps and scrapes andor maybe a bit of bad feelings, when he loses control .....
The chances are that at some point he could lose control again
I just don’t think the risk is worth taking
//The chances are that at some point he could lose control again //

The same could be said of any murderer Steg, in which case, why bother having a Parole Board at all?
//Do we define it as 'multiple killings'? 'method of killing',both? //

That would be for the judge to consider having heard all the evidence, which they do anyway when assessing the sentence. There's no radical change of process being proposed, just that they should be able to stipulate full life term with no parole.
ag....it is not only the number of killings that need to be assessed, but the METHOD of killing.
To be clear, I would suggest that all murderers serve a whole life sentence, but i do see the need to evaluate on a case to case basis as is already done by the parole board. There is always a risk that the Psychiatrist get it wrong, so my point remains, why take a chance?

I agree with the post of steg above.
//just that they should be able to stipulate full life term with no parole.//

Which judges have done in a few cases. The judge in this case did not see this as one of them.
I know there's a bit of an argy-bargy going on here and I don't know who's saying what or who's right or wrong because I haven't read all the posts - but this creature should never have been released.
