Hi guys, I'd appreciate some ideas please.

A friend of mine is about to go into hospital for major surgery. I am about to go on holiday so will be unable to visit her until she gets home...which might not be for some time. She is in her late sixties.
Any thoughts as to what I can give her as a wee gift to cheer her up?
Thanks for any thoughts.

My friend made me a goodie bag with nice sweets, nice shower gel & deoderant, diluting juice etc... but if its major surgery she might not be eating for a while or have a wound?

From a nurse perspective we always appreciated a nightdress or PJs a size up which are much easier to help patients on with!!

Good fitting slippers which are not flip floppy or backless are also great! Socks & pants never go amiss!

Its not very inventive but a good book, or magazines or a voucher for her kindle etc would be good if she has one.

Mabye even pen & paper to journal if she is the type! I saw alot of people using those adult colouring books!!

Hope your friend gets well soon xx

Thanks, I'll think about that
Some patients like a nice wee hand gel to sanitize their hands with that they can keep nearby if mobility is limited at times. Same with a nice wee lip balm or moisturiser because of the dry air/heating!! Xx
Or a wee handheld fan!?

Ok ill stop now LOL! X

Thank you too Tinkerbel.
I'll was thinking about a goodie bag of some kind. She will have a wound and may not be eating for a while, but some nice shower gel won't go wrong and some sweets will keep until she's fancying them.

Thanks again Tinks...I really like the idea of hand sanitiser gel and lip balm too.
Definately!!!

Mabye some hair ties/
Clip for those days its needing out the way or dry shampoo. Peoples legs get awfuly dry if they are wearing compression stockings so mabye even a spray on moisturiser would be easier to use than creams! Xx
A book or two, a good way to pass the time in hospital.
I was in hospital last week and I’d have loved - a book or two, crossword/puzzle book and pen, bag of sweets, little bottle of moisturiser and body spray, notepad and pen, some nice cordial....
Terry's York Fruits always go down well
I did a treat bag for elderly lady friend.. wet wipes..small pot of face cream..small scent atomiser ..lip balm..mirror... hand cream.. fold up brush... nightie.. puzzle book..pen... bag of Werthers.. eye mask..ear plugs... bottle of robinsons summer fruit double strength....travel size bottles of shower gel and shampoo...wipes for glasses...a wee pack of notelets with envelopes.... panty liners...
That was thoughtful minty!
sadly she passed away after 3 weeks in hospital..had been knocked down by a van.. at 82 complications set in... very sad...
Oh dear. So sad.
Ear plugs are a great one Minty xx

Thank you, everyone....ear plugs I would never have thought of but what a great idea!
A nice soft pastel coloured pashmina. A little bit of comfort and heat post operatively. Maybe with a squirt of a favourite perfume .

Thank you everyone.
I bought quite a few items that you suggested and have wrapped them up in a nice bag that she could also use as a toilet bag.
I'll give them to her tomorrow when I see her and will report back.
