/// A section 60 has been authorised across Hounslow Borough from 5.15pm on Tuesday until 4am on Wednesday. Police have the power to stop and search individuals for offensive weapons.' ///

Ah!!! That will soon sort it out, the question I wish to ask is " why isn't section 60 authorised, 24/7"?

yes I think it's genuinely become a crisis.
It's nothing new. Just more widely reported.
I think that "on an almost hourly basis" is somewhat of an exaggeration, but it is definitely a problem that needs sorting out.

I don't think there can be any doubt that it's on the increase, ummmm.
Controversial but I wonder if we stopped reporting these incidents would it help.
I’m not suggesting that that is feasible or even desirable from other points of view but I’m not sure there isn’t an element of “copycat” about these.

because the police are institutionally racist?

I agree, Ich...

Naomi...I lived very close to the town centre and watched fights every weekend. People being slashed, glassed, bottled, stabbed. It didn't even make into the local newspaper.
ummmm, that doesn't mean knife crime isn't on the increase.

I do a similar thing when I think I see a ghost, I hide under the covers.
I come out from under and voila, no ghosts, all gone.

But then I'm nine years old.
You obviously missed the Mod & Rockers days...and the football hooligans.
ummmm, you're in denial. There's no doubt that knife crime has increased.

Really?

3.15pm, Kidbrooke: 18-year-old stabbed and left critical but is now stable

1 hour 15 Minutes later:

4.30pm, Hounslow: A man, 26, was slashed multiple times in the face

1 hour 35 minutes later:

6.05pm, Tottenham: A boy, believed to be aged 17, slashed in the face

55 minutes later:

7pm, Barking: 17-year-old man stabbed; 9pm, Tooting: Man, 18, knifed
No Douglas what you do is not tell anyone you saw the ghost and then maybe no one else tries pretending they’re one too.

Not really feasible I agree, but just thinking aloud ...
knife crime statistics go up and down. At the moment they're going up, but not to extraordinary levels

AOG, "on an almost hourly basis" would intimate that it is happening 24/7 which, obviously,it is not.
//why isn't section 60 authorised, 24/7"?//

Is it because many who are stopped film the experience on their smartphones and post the footage online? And that could backfire on the police?

Is it because of fear of criticism from the poorer communities or those which are targeted most?

It's time to get tougher and use the powers more widely. This is,of course, not a recent criticism and despite officers being trained in correct techniques and ethics there will always be distrust and accusations.

The police will never win the argument but senior officer's just need to get on with their job without undue interference and start cracking down.

It's meant to be a crackdown against knife crime not an exercise in a war of words.

You're right, ichkeria, I'm off to bury my head in the sand instead.

I did not say it happened now on an hourly basis 24/7.

But in the examples I gave it did.

I agree with you, but I often wonder why the black community have not yet taken to the streets with their protest boards "Black lives matter" and demanding action.
Aaaaaaand there we go. The real reason for the post.
