I shouldn't imagine Rachel Reeves book is singularly based on this one quote - it's my view that no one should have to suffer abuse of any kind in the undertaking of their employment.

However trolls have always and will always abound.

Rarely do they enact their hollow threats but it must be scary to think they might.

The simple fact is - if you decide you make to make a career in politics, especially a career as controversial and high profile as Diane Abbott has, then negative reaction is part and parcel of your chosen life.

Does that make it OK?

Absolutely not, under any circumstances.

No person should have to suffer one iota of abuse or threats for simply going about their daily business, but I am sure Diane Abbott is able to accept that trolling is something that has to be ignored, and threats are something to be reported to the authorities.

Any snide and 'humorous' remarks on this thread are in extreme bad taste, and no-one should be mocking someone for expressing a very real fear of actual attack.
