How come black people say they're proud to be black but when someone else says they're black they take offence? If he's black he's black. What's to be offended about?

To be fair Naomi, in this case it was not Tom Elliott who was offended but the 'snow flake' talkSPORT bosses.
Yet another thread for xenophobes to spout their bile.
"Don't mention the fact he's black. I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it."

..Motson was heard to say, just before being reprimanded.
AOG how would you feel being described Weak, White and Wrong?
well they'r negative connotations where as Big and brave aren't
Well, Donald Trump appears to be a sort of apricot colour, and being the time of year if I were to paint a self-portrait I'd be looking a mixture of light ochre and titanium white, with just a touch of quinacridone magenta.
But neither Donald nor I really give toss.
or wordy white and wondrous but I suspect you would like that as its a bit of an ego boost.

If you were pointing someone out amongst a crowd of white people and that person happened to be black, would you describe the colour of his shirt, or simply say "that black fellow over there"?
I would never use the words 'that black fellow over there' neither I suspect would anyone under the age of 80.
I'd say the black guy.. But, that is very different to saying the big black brave man when describing a football player.

Situations matter
the fact the man is black would identify him from a crowd, the fact he's black has nowt to do with football AOG.
Oh contrary RR it's more likely (in my opinion) an 80+ would be happier to be racist, or be more ignorant to racism due to the era they lived and were born in. It's more likely a younger person is to be less racist in my opinion due to the times.

My nan still calles the Chinese takeaway a chinkie
ah sorry RR i thought you said over the age of 80 seems we agree.

Wow!!! it is worst than I first thought, it is (according to some) now xenophobic to discuss such issues.

Still at least the overused 'Racist' word has been put on the back burner for a rest, let's hope someone turns the burner on.
I've said it before but "black" isn't a race.
Why on earth is it offensive to call a black skinned person black? It wasn't said in a derogatory way. Black people should be standing up and shouting from the rooftops---''I am a black person and proud to be one '',not taking umbrage whenever their skin colour is mentioned.;Unless remarks are made in an offensive way there shouldn't be any need for anyone to take offence.
John Motson had no need to apologise.

Canary, //Yet another thread for xenophobes to spout their bile. //

That's a silly thing to say. As far as I can tell he was born in this country. He's not a foreigner.

No that would be insulting, but coming from the likes of you, to be expected, but perhaps you do not not know the difference, so shall we just put the blame on your upbringing?
Not quite on this level is it:-

''Viv Anderson was one of the top defenders in England in the late 1970s. He became the first black footballer to play for England 40 years ago on 29 November 1978.

The 22-year-old played for Nottingham Forest when they won the European Cup - the old version of the Champions League - in 1979 and 1980.

However, his selection for England was controversial. A lot of fans in Britain didn't like the idea of a black footballer playing for England because they believed black players weren't truly British"
What sheltered lives some on here must live when they think that people under 80 would never say -'black person over there'. .
