….Government lawyers told the High Court yesterday.

Ben Jaffey QC, acting for the Department of Health, made the claim during a court hearing as a female-to-male parent attempted to be registered as the father of his child, despite giving birth to the baby.

If the legal bid is successful, the child would be the first to have no legally recognised mother.

What utter tripe! Confusion reigns! Poor kid.

Biology trumps physical augmentation any day.
If you're going to allow people to legally change their gender (male or female) which seems like a perfectly good thing to me, then it's fairly obvious that this would eventually be a problem to sort out. The details of this case are not as shocking as the headline in my opinion.
This is what happens when mankind messes with nature !
*IF* you're going to allow people to legally change their gender...
And there's where the problem lies.
Officially pretending that mimicking a different gender, because someone's mental state doesn't match the physical reality, is identical to being the different gender.
"I agree with Mamy. I never bullied anyone and neither have my children...regardless."

So you didnt so it doesn't happen. Right-oh, I give up.
With respect, OG, that is your opinion and there is no reason I can see for your opinion on the validity of gender reassignment to be enforced on people who want to do it and go through the long and arduous process. If you don't want one, don't get one. That seems a reasonable compromise to me. If you don't get one, in turn then this court case (which I think the Mail is sensationalising) will have no significant impact on your life.
It certainly does happen, children pick up on the attitudes of those around them and if they hear certain derogatory remarks whilst the News is on or Mum and Dad are reading the paper they'll trot them out.

Seen it and heard it, hence far better to instil tolerance and understanding and discuss difficult issues rather than yell 'End of'.
Of course it does youngmafbog...but bullying happens for various reason. A bully will always find something to bully about.

Not enough tolerance around. Have a word with him, Mamya.

spell police...HELP ME TO HELP MYSELF.
Jim , behave!
Is it still a criminal offence to imitate a police orrificer?
Why the hell can't they just leave well alone .!

Gender reassignment can only ever be a cosmetic solution – and that doesn’t give anyone the right to redefine established terminology or to undermine other people. A mother is a mother, a father is a father. There is no discrepancy.
The person making this claim isn't trying to redefine established terminology. That's the person arguing against them. The parent is, now that he's legally male, trying to be recognized as father rather than mother as is consistent with his legal status. If you accept that such a status should exist at all, then it's hard to see why he's wrong.
Bullying starts with name-calling, using words like TROB etc.

Krom, The claimant is irrelevant. People can pretend - the law can pretend – but the fact is that transgender people are just that. This parent is not a man and not a father - and never will be. The whole thing is a nonsense.
