Rockrose, //Because they have lived their lives and should stop ruining the future for younger generation// The senior generation are still living their lives. Are you trying to qualify for the stupidest post of the week?

In retrospect, higher is more sensible; but it's difficult to take something away that a citizen has already been granted, so avoiding giving the vote to children also, is likely to be the best practical thing we can achieve.
If you say so Danny
Rockrose, Many of our politicians are past retirement age – and most of them want us to remain in the EU because they think the future will be better served. Hmmm… on second thoughts, perhaps you’re right. ;o)
the difference between 18 and 21 is three years, 18 divided by 3 is 6 so that is 1/6th extra life experience...
Kval @ 12.43. Do you have any statistics for young people between the ages of 16 and 20 who are suffering from some type of mental illness?
11.09, "People should at least have to understand what they are voting about , before being allowed to do so". Have to agree with you once again. Problem was no one told the leave voter what they were voting about. "None so blind as them that do not want to see"
People are so different so it's really hard to judge. I have two kids I wouldn't let go and vote...but I have the 3rd one I would have trusted with a vote at the age of 14. He knows more about politics than the whole household put together.
My main point in this is.. a select few 18 year olds would in fact be very eligible to vote. I do agree maybe not the vast majority though..

So.. Maybe 21 would be a better age, to allow the majority to mature up a bit, and maybe have some real work experiences instead of just uni?

It is odd that people who have been in education their entire lifes can vote on real world affairs.
Gulliver //None so blind as them that do not want to see"//
Coming from you that is hilarious.PMSL.
Most young people (under 25) seem a bit thick. They spend their lives staring at I-phones and the like. Their general knowledge is deplorable. Look at any TV quiz show and you will get my drift.

The doziest contestants on quiz shows are young teachers. The majority of youngsters today are dim-witted.
I like how this is gradually turning into yet another discussion about Brexit.

People shouldn't be denied the vote just because you think they'll cast their vote against what you would vote for. That Leave voters were (in general) older isn't a sign that older people should be blocked from voting, or that young people are (in general) more likely to support Corbyn provides no justification to stop 16-year-olds voting.

can we assume that if it were put to the vote, most of you on this thread would fall over yourselves to vote for a society like this?

You're just watching the wrong young people, Sparkly. Shame that it's led you to become so judgemental.
"The majority of youngsters today are dim-witted."

That is not a fact.
It is my genuine observation.
from the chair in your living room. Brilliant.
Yes, I accept that, but you are genuinely observing only a very limited selection of young people of that's your impression.
When I am not in my living room and out and about I rarely see a young person not clutching an I-phone like it is some sort of life support mechanism. Todays youngsters seem to know all the silly names of celebs children but have no idea who the foreign secretary is.
Again!! Insulting our young for no reason.
Wrong, SK, when my kids walk down the street with their phone in their hand 9 times out of 10 they'll be listening to music...or checking their fitness app.

Don't be so judgemental!
