This Lambe Geezer wants to have good hard look at himself.
Lambe: "Mr Lambe said: 'I have enormous sympathy for the Bulger family and when I think about what they've been through it breaks my heart.'" - so much so he's going to put them through the ringer again! lowlife.

Then the proper way to do it, Jack would be in consultation with the parents of James.
//Who would want to go and watch this ?//
I will be watching this, I studied the original crime for my criminology course and will be interested in this
James Bulger mother says

"....Everyone knows they tried to abduct a girl before they took James. James would have been married now with his own kids.' ...."

I never knew this!
Then the proper way to do it, Jack would be in consultation with the parents of James.

Right or wrong, just playing devils advocate he’s trying to tell the story from the boys perspective(and maybe that of their families), so engaging with the Bulgers would have been fruitless and even more antagonistic.

The knee-jerk reaction is to condemn it/him out of hand, which is understandable, it’s just that every horror and tragedy has a background story, from both the side of the victim and that of the perpetrators which some might want to hear, however morbidly fascinating.
Just my view though, not judging nor condemning anyone.

I can't speak for Mr. Lambe but what if he had consulted them and they had said "No, don't make it"?
Denise and Ralph have already agreed that many documentaries, etc. have been made about the tragic case, I am not sure that they ought to be able to give the final say-so over whether a programme can be made, or not.
That, too, is the slippery slope....
I can see the terrible hurt the making of this film is doing.
I fail to see what good can come of it....what purpose it can serve.
I know why two friends murdered and why, when my teen friend and I came home from a disco to discover her dad murdered, the murderer had killed him.
All different reasons but knowing those reasons contributed nothing. Hasn't helped anyone or society.

If the parents had been consulted and said no.....that's as it should be in this case.
How is this documentary type film any different to the ones that Mrs Bulger has allowed to be filmed before apart from she doesn’t want the other side of the incident to be told.
She is happy enough to be in front of the camera along with the child she had after Jamie as long as it is on her terms.
Unfortunately there is always 2 sides to every story
Any story in the public domain cannot have gatekeepers though, however distressing that is. It would be like not being able to make a film about Bloody Sunday for example- who gets to choose how that's portrayed?
I have absolute sympathy with the Bulger family and god knows i'd have hunted those boys down and killed them myself if that had been my child, but they can't be the final authority on whether TV, films and docs are produced about this, it's too public for that :( x
As far as I'm concerned, RR.....James was her son....so on her terms is fine.
Perhaps if every time we see Thompson and Venables as lost little boys crying for their mummy, we were also shown a shot of a beaten and battered James crying for his, then I might just accept this piece of work ... but that wouldn't fit anyone's agenda would it?
//she [Mrs Bulger] doesn’t want the other side of the incident to be told.//

What other side of the incident? These two boys murdered her toddler. As far as I'm concerned there is no other side of the incident.

As I read it the problem isn’t that he’s made a film but that he’s portrayed the murderers in a sympathetic manner. As far as I'm aware previous documentaries about this case or any of the other murderers mentioned here haven’t done that so really they don’t compare.
Naomi just because you consider it to be one sided doesn’t mean it is
I agree entirely with Naomi - there is no "other side to the story" - they selected a child, abducted him, tortured him and killed him - where is the 'other side'?
And that little child must have been crying and crying for his Mummy, this is probably why poor Denise will NEVER get over it, she couldn't be there for her baby ..
iv have often wondered, what would compel a ten year old to murder another child, was it a game that went to far or victim was picked on and went to far, was it calculated ? from a psychological standpoint
why did they do it.
Rockrose, //Naomi just because you consider it to be one sided doesn’t mean it is //

So what is the other side?
I don't think anyone is attempting to excuse anything Dave, but it's no use portraying those 10 year olds as anything other than 10 year olds, and they have been, cntinually, in the press. I'm not even suggesting for a moment that they didn't know what they were doing, but they were two 10 year old kids and I think you'll agree it's true that MOST 10 year olds would never do such an horrific thing, so WHY they did will naturally be of interest to people, and if their background promoted that, although it doesn't excuse it, it does lead us to understand their criminality better which has to be a good thing as once we understand something we have half a chance of stopping it reoccuring.
Well Naomi without saying the obvious that is what we will find out from the film
From the link:

She said: 'It takes you right back to that day.

'I have three young men I'm caring for now and we've got a charity. I just don't want to keep going back there all the time.
————-
Whilst she has my sympathy, isn’t running a charity and going on TV each time the story(in one form or another) is re-told just reliving it and putting herself through the turmoil each time?
The documentary is basically the same as the recent Tony Martin programme on C4 isn’t it, where actors relayed the interview transcripts verbatim?
I watched a programme that played the actual interview tapes themselves of the boys sobbing etc so this programme is nothing out of the ordinary other than the fact that Jamie’s parents weren’t consulted, isn’t it?
Rockrose, you’re going to have to state the obvious. Whatever it is isn’t obvious to me.

Kvalidir, //it does lead us to understand their criminality better which has to be a good thing as once we understand something we have half a chance of stopping it reoccuring. //

Yes, I don’t doubt for a moment that this unknown director has produced this film for the benefit of society. All heart.
