Friend's car had to go in to garage for repair. She was to get a courtesy car from Enterprise. On arriving there they said she had to pay them £1? She went to hand this over but they said it had to be paid by credit card. She doesn't have a credit card but said her daughter would come down and pay it. Then told that it could only be paid by someone named on her insurance. Well she doesn't have anyone on her insurance. Enterprise then said OK just give us £100!!! Exit stage left fuming leaving them in no doubt what she thought of their service. After apologising profusely, insurance company arranged for another courtesy car. What a palaver.

shortly after enterprise started up in the UK, my company hired a car for me for a one-way journey from the midlands to Gatwick airport. the car was to be delivered to my home as Enterprise's depot was some miles away.

on the day in question - no car. by a turn of fate, this was the Saturday of princess diana's funeral, and enterprise had given all their staff the day off. cue mad scramble for plan B, which was to go by train and stay overnight in a very expensive hotel. when enterprise were contacted on the Monday for their comments, they arrogantly responded that everyone knew it was diana's funeral and could have expected staff to be off, and should have arranged accordingly.

never used them since.
I remember be asked to pay £1 when collecting a courtesy car from a main dealer but I can't remember why. Not much help. Hopefully someone else will have the answer.
I wonder if £1 on a credit card is a form of security deposit
So they can charge extras/damages against you.
Is this the company that advertises that they have US levels of customer service?

Sounds like US means useless.
