So.. after over 2 years of tripe lies and negotiations, to come up with a deal no one is happy with, driven by a unelected default leader.. to then be voted with no confidence.. Surely someone is responsible for this time being wasted, and not used to the max?

When will we actually get a new, decent PM? Seems (from other threads) the time is nigh.

theshedman, not a referendum of leave or stay.. We've voted leave so lets get out but that's not happening, and its not happening with the current deal. We're being taken for a right old ride. A referendum on who the leader should have been or should be. A referendum on how we leave.. Nothing to do with remaining, but out ambitions and thoughts for the next step, who and how we leave.
Question Author
Talbot, exactly that. Yes. If no, the a general election, if yes, then all sails ahead.
The leadership of the Conservative Party is an internal matter for the Conservative Party. It just so happens that the leader of the Tories at the moment is the Prime Minister.

A referendum on who is the leader of the Party would therefore be inappropriate -- why should I, as a non-Conservative, have any say in who leads them? -- and a referendum specifically on whether the PM is or is not one person seems completely misguided.
Question Author
because they will be the ones deciding the say for our entire nation, not just the tories in it.
The problem is that whilst she might not be the Prime Minister you want, she was lumbered with a task that the British people gave her. Deal with Brexit. She has been fighting on two fronts ever since - the EU and the House of Commons. She has got the best deal she could possibly hope to get from the EU - it was always going to be a tough fight and because not everyone is happy (it was never going to happen anyway).. people are spitting their dummies out of their prams and saying she must go. The deal won't change even if a new PM takes over. All that will happen is that we leave the EU in March 2019 with no deal and the country is in dire straights then.
Question Author
One reason why she should stay though?

they set dates for things to be done, they failed. They made promises, they haven't been kept. She has milked the time frame and lied. She needs to go.
BagPuss is spot on.If Theresa May loses the no cofidence vote today then the M.P's will come with names of candidates who will be voted on by themselves until only two are left. Then ballot papers will be sent out to every member of the Conservative party in the country and the person with the most votes will be the winner and therefore leader of the Conservative party and thus Prime Minister.Theresa May cannot stand in this but as far as I understand it would remain as Prime Minister until her successor is chosen. All this against a backdrop of March 29th 2019 which wouldn't give anyone any time to improve,if that was remotely possible, our exit from the EU on that date.
For goodness sake spate you’ve already been told she called an election and won therefore she was elected. What bit of that do you not understand?
Gove did not stand down last time; he came a poor third in the final ballot.
Question Author
Is she winning Cassa? Seems at the moment we're all loosing.
spath, if the vote of no confidence vote is carried and a new leader of the conservatives is required, are you suggesting the party's choice of leader must be ratified by the electorate?
Question Author
I'd prefer so but it' never happen.
in that case, since labour are likely to form the next government, we need to PDQ arrange a public vote on the suitability of Jeremy Corbyn to be PM.
Question Author
I agree.
// I`m sure Boris could do it but there are to many around ready to stab him in the back again. //

He wasn't stabbed in the back. He bottled it because like the rest of us, he wasn't expecting the Brexit result, and didn't want to deal with it as PM when it happened.
spathiphyllum //its not hard to go to the poll station ad tick a box. I don't see the big issue with referendums. The more, the more democratic.//
Unless you don't get the result you want, of course, Spath. ;)
Question Author
urgh lol ;) I don't mean the more referendums for the SAME vote!! I mean for the separate stages
Spat... You asked for one good reason why she should stay..

Because we need some sort of stability until March next year and she is the best we have got. David Cameron should have stayed and seen this through but he bottled it and left the country in the lurch. She didnt. She stepped up even though she was against Brexit in the first place and she has had to fight not only the EU but her own government to try and get the best deal possible for everyone. She should be allowed to stay and see it through.
If, after March, the tories decides that they dont want her anymore then call a general election as well and see what the country want.
Question Author
Stable?? She's on the verge of a mental breakdown or being booted out by her piers.

The only thing stable is their ability to bogart.
