not sure about this, i am torn between good on him, and you can't go round slapping a child. Seems he had to brake his vehicle hard, so reacted accordingly.

If a child ran out in front of my vehicle, for whatever reason, the last thing I would think about was giving that child a slap.

Childoubt is spot on, in that this was a "fright and flight" normal biological reaction....almost automatic, to prevent and deter harm to the host or a defensive response for the victim.
People have different levels of chemical responses.
A-H......the human body is not a robot (well not yet anyway) and there are multiple degrees of responses to a given situation.

Suppose you accidentally cut this driver up, causing him to brake sharply and, at the next set of lights, he got out of his coach, came up to your car and slapped you through the window. Not much different to this scenario. How would you describe it? I'd call it road rage. In this case it was even worse because he perpetrated it on a child, not an adult.

The driver needs help, not praise.

If I have this right then - you are saying that if I have to break sharply because something has run out in front of me - after making the vehicle safe, I climb out, walk over to the individual and slap them - its automatic?
Nope sorry - swearing and calling them a few choice names is automatic making the decision to get out and slap someone is not.

Similar reaction was witnessed by my wife when she and others were trying to put an elderly woman to bed in a Geriatric ward at Wimbledon hospital years ago. Suddenly the old woman sunk her teeth in the ward sitters wrist almost to the bone. Claret was everywhere. The sister let out a yell and whacked the old dear.Old dear also yelled and released the bite.The sister was in great pain and was very rueful and full of remorse but explained to her nurses it was a reflex reaction. It worked.Unfortunately there was a whistleblower to the scene and a susension and inquiry was established. I suggested my wife saw nothing.

In the 60s I saw children being raised by well-meaning hippy parents - "Ooo, don't mind Justine, she's just highly spirited!" (Crash.) "Please don't shout at Tarquin, he's just being creative." (Crash.)

Justine and Tarquin, needless to say, turned out to be grown-up brats, and had brats of their own.

Discipline (which can mean a sharp smack of correction) is how young animals are raised, tempered by love and kindness.

The bus driver will probably be sacked, but (curiously) I'm with Theland - he deserves a medal.

To the bleeding hearts. You do realise that the driver didn't just get out of the bus and slap the kid. He remonstrated with him and the kid replied, 'F*** off and just drive your bus'.
Which renders most of your arguments redundant.

I know from experience that a PCV driver is examined on primarily the smooth safe and comfortable drive he gives his passengers as well as the usual driving techniques in the Highway code.If he throws the bus around corners etc he will fail.
If any of you have done an emergency stop on a 65 seater coach,as I did in my test,you will find the brakes are not like a mini cooper. They are so powerful they can place the coach/bus on it's nose.
The actions of this brat could have endangered the safety of passengers,especially old frail persons who could of been thrown out of their seats causing death or injury.Should any death or injury occur the driver,in the UK,will be suspended or have his licence revoked.
The driver saved this brat's life at the risk of his job and the safety of his passengers.I can imagine the shock it may have given the driver at the time but he saved the brat's life and is unlikely to do it again where the next bus driver may not be so attentive and alert.

No it doesn't Spicerack - because he is an adult - AN ADULT - slapping a child - that's what makes this wrong.
Nothing to do with bleeding hearts - can we call you all child abusers then as it seems you approve of slapping children around?
