It amazes me how some theologians study to doctoral level, and learn nothing on the journey.
I feel sorry for this lady who has obviously wasted her time, and now speaks with apparent authority on a subject, God, that she knows so little about.
She is not alone. There are many such scholars who have cherry picked their way through the subject, without ever coming to realise the basic spirituality of the subject.
Even more disturbing is the fact that inevitably, her words will carry weight and influence by virtue of the letters after her name, when in fact she has nothing of any substance to say.
There are many Christian speakers who could tie her up in knots in minutes.
I would love to watch a debate between her and the likes of Ravi Zacharias, or others of comparable talent and spiritual awareness.
This lady is peddling snake oil, nothing more.
A rocket scientist who does not believe in rockets.
If only she humbled herself in prayer and allowed God to reveal His reality.
I hope one day she does.
Oh yes! I'm supposed to ask a question.
What do you think?

I think "foul scorn" of that argument, Theland.

The final solution to the God question is the argument from theodicy.

If I, VE - made however imperfectly in the "image of God" - care so much for the suffering of His creatures, why does He care (seemingly) so little?

Question Author
Yes it would seem that way to many, but the Bible explains this.
Question Author
We live in a fallen world, a world of evil, death and disease, war, crime, you know the list by heart.
It wasn't meant to be like this.
Gods plan is to redeem the world to Himself.
In the meantime we suffer the evils and injustices.
The full explanation really is out there if you care to research it all.
To authenticate it all, turn to bible prophecy.
It is real and it is true.
Many times on here I have been ridiculed for believing it, yet I believe. Why?
I do not take these things at face value but look into them, and they are so convincing that right now, the prophecies are being played out around the world, especially in the Middle East.
There, I have said it, and now I can expect scorn and ridicule by the bucket load. But who dares to test it? Look into it in detail and see for themselves how accurate the prophecies are?
The lady in the video certainly hasn't got a clue about them, and that's sad, for her, and for those she misleads.
Theland, doesn't your "It wasn't meant to be like this" cast doubts on the competence (moral or otherwise) of your God?

// This lady is peddling snake oil, nothing more. //

And you are peddling irony.

That is an easy mistake to make.
No it doesn't.

I spoke about prophecy. This lecture is quite interesting.
Question Author
From it - what's your point? Expand?
Question Author
Gromit not from it

Another shorter video.
One of the first things it states is the mockery that prevails. Gromit just illustrated this.
I think I need another cup of coffee.
//It amazes me how some theologians study to doctoral level, and learn nothing on the journey.//

I would suggest that, like me, atheist theologians learn everything on their journey. I’d hazard a guess that that’s why they’re atheists.

//We live in a fallen world, a world of evil, death and disease, war, crime, you know the list by heart.
It wasn't meant to be like this.//

I can only echo v_e’s question at 04:00. Why doesn't ‘It wasn’t meant to be like this’ lead you to a logical conclusion about this God you claim to be omnipotent?
I would love to study theology properly the better to dismantle the delusions of the misguided and brainwashed. I have always believed Gods are created by man not the other way round and belief structures and religions are designed by humans to manage the behaviour of others. Many times with wise intent... e.g. food restrictions that came out of a time when some foods would be unhealthy for humans. Incest rules before mankind knew about DNA
Don't usually watch the video links but as this was a short one I did. I don't hear anything there that isn't reasonable. It's one point of view as part of what I take to be a studio discussion. Seems to me one is criticised if one forms an opinion without in depth study because it seems unreasonable quite early on, and now told she's just wasted time because she doesn't hold the same interpretation as believers.
//There are many Christian speakers who could tie her up in knots in minutes.//

I doubt that very much. There is one unassailable fact that cannot be disputed – and that is that the writings contain a plethora of contradictions. Christians claiming that certain verses are indisputable while others are simply symbolic just doesn’t wash. Faced with someone whose knowledge of scripture is equal to their own, your representatives fall at the first hurdle.

And actually Theland, I don't believe you feel sorry for that lady. I think she scares you.
Someone who has studied the bible in the depth this woman has has a better understanding of the religion than you give credit for.

That is probably because she disagrees with your flawed analysis that the bible is truth.

I feel sorry for you Theland. Sorry that you have a need of a fairytale to bolster your self worth.

I think there is a universal truth that all humans (neurotypical ones at least) that have self doubt. That at times feel lost or lonely or overwhelmed or frightened. And stories help. Stories show we can manage if we are resilient and persevere.

This trend is started at the cradle when we tell our children bedtime stories to help them sleep. The bible is an extension of that bedtime story telling.

It’s just a shame that men (for they are usually the ones to found a religion) have exploited that need.
\\ There are many such scholars who have cherry picked their way through the subject,//
Theland, you do realise that is exactly what you do. The contradictions naomi mentions are there for all to see so you cannot possibly believe the entire bible. Ergo you cherry pick.
//Theland, you do realise that is exactly what you do//
//you cherry pick//

Theland isn't aware that he cherry picks from the Bible because (unlike the well versed scholar in the vid) he hasn't read it all.
What Theland does is take as 'gospel' what Christian apologists tell him.
As a young born again Christian I did exactly the same as Theland until (unlike Theland) I read the entire Bible and educated myself.
Question Author
And the numerous prophecies regarding the Jews as a people, and the land of Israel, and the present day threats?
Is that all just amazing coincidence?
Question Author
So Nailit, as a self educated theologian, what is your take on the prophecies mentioned?
Theland .... nudge, nudge ...

You haven't mentioned any specific prophesies ... at least not on this thread. What prophecies are you talking about?
