If you were sitting on tube carriage, or on a bus, and through one door walked a very old person, with a walking stick, and at the other end, a woman in her third trimester...and there were no seats free, who would you give up your seat for?

//Because she is a lady, and courtesy is nice?//
Who says that shes a 'lady' just because she's female?
Could be the next Rose West or Myra Hindley....

Sharon, see first line @ 21:05, might explain things.
Baldric never surprises me, Sharon....saddens me at times...but never surprises.....

Me?....I'd give my seat to the one who looked as if she needed it.....it's not difficult to take notice of other folk and go from there...well for some of us....x
But if we don't know that, Nailit then courtesy and thoughtfulness goes a long way.... :-)
I ALWAYS give up my seat for any elderly looking person/pregnant lady/mum with young child..would never enter my head not to..guess it's in the upbringing ?
Where should sympathy lie ? Old age is unavoidable, pregnancy is at least 50% self inflicted......... That said, chivalry is very low-cost, no matter who is the receiver.
I have even paid fares when bus passes couldn't be found in cavernous shopping bags !
Well I am sad and surprised. Doesn't matter how many times you have used public transport, where are your manners??!!!!
I can confirm what Minty says....we shared a bus trip in Scarborough......she took great pleasure in showing me to the only seat left!.... :-(
one likes to do one's bit for Help the Aged ...lol....
It's just common good manners that if you see someone, anyone who looks as if they could use your seat more than you could you offer it to them, man woman or child.

My manners are just fine, thank you, those close to me would confirm that, they just are not extended to users of Public Transport, which I have already said I rarely use.
^ But good manners apply across the board. You either have them or you don't
Knowing what it's like to have severe anaemia and hot flushes during pregnancy, I would always give up my seat to a heavily pregnant woman.

I'd also give up my seat to someone on crutches or someone who had one arm in a sling. Or an elderly frail person.

Common sense and decency costs nothing.
ooo Balders...ooo.....
With respect Baldric, if they are not extended to everyone, then they are not 'fine'.
Remember an old joke built on this theme.

Ended with -

Standing bloke: "And how long have you been pregnant young lady".

Expectant and seated mother: "About forty-five minutes".

With respect, I'm the one who decides who I respect, or not.
Sorry Baldric, I don't believe you. Most servicemen I have met are quite respectful. I don't believe you are so bloody minded. Maybe you're on a wind up - I hope so.
Ewww nasty :/
