I am very much in favour of national service in Britain what do other abs think ?

On the National Service question, whilst the immediate thought is "Great" the reality is that it is just not workable.

In addition just what would it achieve? Might wake a few up but what about the disruption to those pressing forward with a career, many young people are not "snowflakes" and have grit it is only the weak ones that bleat and get the press.

And lets not forget it would have to include ALL genders. Can you imagine just the cost of all the bog signs?

As usual, the people most in favour of (any) forced Civic or National Service are those who would be exempt because they are too old ...

Ummmm , if gulliver has children things haven't worked out well.

There are aspects to a scheme of this type that would benefit many, but as NJ said the costs would be huge and they would have to work in conjunction with whatever educational/career path these young people were following too.

I wouldn't be in favour of it here either. It would be catastrophically expensive, a waste of time, and - perhaps more importantly - would be an unjustified intrusion on peoples' liberty.
