Clearly this is an average and we still have many clever young people but is there some truth in this? Is this was we see some really irrational thought coming from some?

And before the PC Brigade and perpetually offended get the hump, I too disagre with the wording of the headline (using the word stupid).

Not sure I follow you Spath ?
Intelligence can’t be taught, but intelligence can be influenced by teaching.

Spath, you say Islam isn’t taught and then go on to say that as a schoolchild you were taken to various places of worship. Make your mind up, there’s a good chap!
I don't think they're are testing like they previously did.
I think he means that he wasn't taught it as a faith, but the was taught ABOUT it, as was I.

Naomi - I was also taught about other religions. It wasn't rammed down our throats. It was part of RE. It was only a few lessons.

ummmm, //Naomi - I was also taught about other religions. It wasn't rammed down our throats. It was part of RE. It was only a few lessons. //

Don't tell me - tell Spath. He's the one saying Islam isn't taught. And he says I'm confused. :o)
As far as I know, in RE they're taught ABOUT religion, not having any particular religion rammed down their throats.
Fragmented families with poorly educated parents, poor diet, lack of work ethic, using debt to get stuff rather than earn it, social media and poor role models. There are so many areas like this and it will certainly bring the average down. When the girls want to be YouTube stars or wags and the boys want to be rappers or tv personalities rather than doctors engineers and teachers because they want it now
danny:"ummmm, You cannot teach intelligence which is what an I/Q test measures" - yes but I think this is a case of "could do better" - in my experience anything that takes them away from their phone is at best rushed so they can get back to it. The article talks about IQ so I assume they used a test, I imagine those taking the tests probably rushed it to get back to their phone etc rather than giving it the beans as it were.

Naomi - It's not taught as a lesson, it's briefly covered as part of RE lessons. There's a difference.
I know, ummmm. I haven't said otherwise.
It would be strange if the IQ results carried on getting better and better. Over time, they should all even out. Nothing too much to worry about with a different swing in results.
TTT - don't assume that all youngsters on their phones are just chit chatting nonsense. I was sitting with my son in a train station and he was reading about North Korea.
Spath, have you ever sat an I/Q test?. They cannot set different tests otherwise they would not be able to measure the results accurately.
I see many stupid adults where I work. It's not just the youngsters who can't work things out.
